Authenticity check - 1994 GMT 16700
Hi RF!
Long time reader, first time poster. I'm in the market for a GMT. I found a 16700 on OfferUp locally and want to get some opinions from you guys to see how real (or fake) you think it is, thank you in advance! The post says it's a 1994 16700. Here are some photos. |

The first two images have fake written all over them. The third and fourth images show a different watch, which at best is a GMT-Master II and not a 16700
Stay away from this. |

The boxes and papers are even from the wrong era. Nothing about this is right.

Not that you need any more advice, but look at the card in the 2nd pic. It clearly starts with 11. Not a good start when you are in the market for a 16700. Run away.

The dial in the second picture is so fake it’s almost funny. Buy from a reputable dealer, there’s plenty listed here or Chrono24, if you must. The watch(s) in these pictures is/are just awful...

Just a quick glimpse at pic #2 was horrorfyng enough. Who ever is trying to sell this knows damn well it's a fake due to three different watches being used in the ad.

Thanks so much all! I thought pic 2 was fake but I thought it was a bad pic... pics 3 and 4 looked legit to me. In any case, I’m staying away, thanks!

Amazed you had to ask to be honest. Tell them its fake, advertise the seller and walk away

Didn’t even bother to use pictures of watches that at least had no lug holes

With all due respect, I realise that not everyone is an expert but at least look at the pictures with a cautious eye when buying a watch from a non reliable channel (I have no idea what OfferUp is, but assume it is not a reliable watch seller).
This is clearly not even the same watch in all the pics (different fade on the bezel, different dial layout, lug holes in some pics and not others). My advice is buy from somewhere/someone that has reliable feedback. I don't mean to be harsh, but rather save you getting scammed, but you are not even close to being able to buy from a private seller. It seems like you saw a deal, liked the price and got carried away with excitement rather than spend even 10 seconds looking at the pics. |

I took the pictures from two posts I found from the same seller so I’m assuming they are the “same watch”. Thanks for all the help. I reported the seller and told them as well

I'm not going to say "fake", I will say fraud.
Half of those pictures are not of a 16700, they are of multiple real and fake GMT and GMT II models spanning several years.

Lol yes! OP- if you cannot see these issues, you should not be buying a watch outside of someone trusted in the industry. Not saying this to be rude at all, but you could get in way too deep and lose thousands of dollars. You should be able to find a great seller that can get you this watch here. I would love to buy a red 1680, but i don’t know enough to venture out on my own. I would rely on a few of the vintage sellers i know to point me in the right direction. Make sure to post a pic when you buy one! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
