Stolen Rolex Datejust 5110937
This watch was stolen on 30 August in Amsterdam. The strap had just been expertly repaired by watchbraceletrepair dot com (£420) and it had a full service only 18 months ago by WatchLabs (£1200). It has been reported to the police and will be reported to Rolex. Any idea on value for insurance?

Depends on how you have the watched insured for and wording is on the policy. There is actual cash value which is replacement cost minus depreciation. There is the Replacement cost which is the cost to replace less your deductible and agreed value wording that could be used depending on the carrier and coverages selected. If you break down the language on your policy a bit more. I’d be happy to help you go through it to get an idea of what will be paid out. Sorry that someone took this from you and I hope you’re alright.

That makes me feel so badly for you, Chester. It is the exact watch I have, in fact the very first Rolex I ever purchased.
I hope this watch gets returned to you and that the perpetrator is caught and duly punished. Hang in there and have good thoughts about getting it back.

Stolen watch
Thanks very much for all your support. I gave the watch to my son in February for his 30th birthday. He was posted to Amsterdam with his job in July. He was out on the town, got a bit pissed and stayed with friends overnight. In the morning, he noticed he had no watch. We can only assume it was stolen directly from his wrist. The clasp was always a bit dodgy, but seemed to be OK after the refurb. There is a possibility it fell off his wrist and was lost, but this seems unlikely. When reported to the police, he was invited to view a haul of several watches recovered that same night after an arrest. Apparently, there is a big problem in Amsterdam and other cities and very skilful thieves!
We actually have 3 insurance policies that will cover this, but none are "new for old" and all are limited. The maximum seems to be £5000 and I am assuming the payout will be based on actual value. I will examine the detail and get back to you. Thanks very much for your help. We are devastated as it was a particularly beautiful watch! |
