I need some help with an Aquanaut.

A friend of mine is looking for a rare Patek and somehow thinks that I (owning none) would be able to help. Apparently back in 2010 Patek made a limited edition aquanaut. It came on a black rubber strap. Apparently, 100 were sold in the USA with a black dial and 100 were sold in Japan with a blue dial. Anybody have a clue? Any ideas where I can further peruse this?

Thanks in Advance!

Interesting, however I think the black dial looks much better on the Aquanaut.

not sure what the blue dial is called exactly but the ref is Aquanaut 5167 so probably Aquanaut 5167 Blue Dial

You friend is correct. In 1997, Patek produced a LE Aquanaut ref. 5066 for the Japanese market. It has a very dark blue dial with matching band.

Thank you for the insight! So if I wanted to buy a real one, how would I go about doing it?

Find someone who has one and make an offer? I don't imagine many of them are sitting in a store.

Yeah I know. I am actually trying to help a friend find one. When it comes to the world of PP, I am pretty much useless.

Contact some sellers here, although they may not be able to help it's worth a try. Post WTBs here and on some other forums like Time Zone, it's worth a try.

You could try the auction houses but I think your friend's going have to buckle down for a long term search. I'm still looking for ONE special vintage piece... Ten yrs later.

if you could still find the limited edition, you could have made quite a bit.
i've seen only one in an auction in 2011, valued at usd8500. bidded to 12500.
someone lost a good deal for the usd8800 aquanaut ...bad advice.
