Rolex from US to UK...
Long story short, tried bidding on a vintage 61 oyster on eBay US... message popped up saying no can do... restrictions or some such... Is this a long standing import restriction, or maybe just the two sellers I tried both want US only... though usually eBay flags that up....
Any thoughts? Thanks, Ben |

Message from whom? EBAY? They seller?
What were the "restrictions"? So not sure how to help without actual details.

Sounds like the sellers didn’t want to deal with customs or a seller that is outside US law.
For me I would always list a watch US ONLY because of that. |

It's the sellers call, pure and simple.
I've bought stuff from and sold stuff to the US with very few problems using Fleabay. |

Can someone explain the ramifications of selling a watch internationally that originates in the US?

I should have been clearer...the message (exact wording I forget) was from Ebay, and took the form, loosely, of 'This bid has been disallowed due to restrictions, account,or seller preferences etc'.
Some things I can hopfully discount: I have perfect and long-standing Feedback. No infractions I'm aware of (though Ebay has recently upped its already-ridicilous levels of 'thou shalt not talk to seller unless we okay it') and i checked with the seller, who said he was happy to sell abroad. And Ebay's own shipping/import duty calculator was on display. So, no idea.I think the Conus? import restriction might play a part...but surely people buy used Rolexes from the US to go to the UK all the time? Anyhow, I missed the 61 I was sorely after, and still after a first Rolex (cue the violins). But hey, I did buy half an old bracelet with no claspor end links and no idea what head it will go on, so that's a start :) Ben |

I think the seller can put a condition in their listing that excludes anyone from outside a particular area (ie international) from placing a bid. It would eBay that then manage this protocol for the seller as they know from your membership where you are (UK) and then prevent you bidding and the seller having the hassle of cancelling the bid or someone winning who they won't sell to.
I would however not expect the sale to come up on a ebay.co.uk search unless you were on ebay.us ?

I checked both, and verified with the seler that he was happy to ship to the UK and he confirmed no such restrictions. Anyway, it's gone now, but would be nice to resolve for future buys. Prices are generally more sensible in the US for certain vintage models, even factoring in shipping/vat/duties etc
