4 series no date vs date size difference?

Apologize if this has been covered before.

Previously wore a transitional 5513 with gold surrounds for 5 years. Traded it.

My AD also sells vintage. Other day I tried on a 1680 non red with a service dial and hands. Have never tried on a 1680 before. Wow did that dial pop. And the watch seemed larger than my 5513, or at least it looked larger. Also tried on a 14060, and put them side by side. Again, the 1680 seemed larger. And the dial popped a lot more.

Am I imaging the size difference? Or is it the lack of gold surrounds on the hour markers?

Previously owned an 114060, and have been thinking about requiring one or going for the newest no date. The larger appearing hour markers are what draw me.

But now I am back to the drawing board. And considering a 5513 or a 1680 again. Trying to figure out whether my perceptions are correct.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Top hat (especially the hard edge service plexi which is totally flat across but with the 45 degree chamfer, rather than the slightly domed soft edge original) can accentuate the dial width imho over a 5513 (unless the 5513 has a particular tropic acrylic- can't remember the T number - where the edge falls into the bezel insert eg it has no vertical sides coming up from bezel). That might be what you're seeing/feeling. :-) ✓

Yes. The Top Hat was awesome. May have been it. Still trying to figure it out.

Many factors can affect the visual appearance of a watch on the wrist, but I don't think there is a significant difference in the sizes of 5513 and 1680 cases.

Dan pretty much nailed it down. Grab the model you like and go for it.

The period correct plexi makes the difference.

And your choice is?
