What do you guys think about the pam 176?

I am looking into buying one, but would love your input. Thanks,

I love BASES! (aka two handers).

If you are considering that, I'd also consider an older Pam 55 with the brown dial and painted numbers. I think big fat painted numbers look great on 44mm Luminors. Before you ask here is a sandwhich dial v a painted dial.

New 112 v 0ld 112

a 55 would have a dial like the one on the right, but slightly brown which looks money with the Ti case.

176 is a beaut watch, light in weight and easy on the eye.
As mfer suggested the earlier 55 is also an option if your budget allows.

The sandwich dial isn't quite as legible in daylight hours as the painted dials.
Only an issue if your eyesight isfailing, like mine.
I have one painted dial and one sandwich dial, fond of both.

cheers

i think it'd fit perfectly with your GMTIIc and PO. personally, i like seeing something move on the dial, so, a 177 would be what i'd be looking at for Ti, but, 176 is great, too.

Love my 176.
I was once hung up on no seconds, but look at the 390 and 372. The these have the primordial PAM "DNA" and no seconds hands. If the Black seal Italian dive demolitions teams during WWII made do without, I guess I can too. As PAM detractors say, the primordial pams have no minute markers, and the subseconds dial don't have individual second markers, and the second hand doesn't hack. So its hard to tell the "exact time" ie 4:48:48 for instance. So seconds or not, its a relatively moot point. The "9" gives the dial a harmonious symmetry, symmetry like the no date 14060M I also love so much.

The 176 is my casual weekend watch. When its dead when I pick it up on Sat morning, I wind it and quickly set the time, without having to fuss with the date, or exact second. I like the purity, and simplicity. I don't need to know the date, I don't necessarily want to know the exact second or even the minute. The 176 has a calming effect on me. Its nice and light weight. The brushed Ti case is subdued and less shiny than the polished cases. The sandwich dial gives the face depth and texture and the lume looks incredible in the dark. The clear case back is interesting if you want to see "movement", but the Movement is nothing like a finished movement on the really high end watches.

Aestheticaly, IMO the only prettier bases are the 390 or 372 IMO, but for the price difference, you are talking a load of straps for a 176 + still have extra cash. I think the tobacco dials may narrow your strap choices to those with patina. I think the regular editions black or white dials give you more versatile strap options.

Sounds cliche, but get the watch that sings to you most. Good luck on your decision!

Thanks guys for your feedback. I actually learned much of what I needed to know. I enjoy the feeling of some weight on my wrist. I am not sure I can purchase this watch as a few people have mentioned that it is light. I suppose my search will continue.

Going to find a boutique to peruse sometime in the near future.

Thanks again..

I love my 177 because it is so light. It weighs 108 grams with a nice vintage strap. If you want a heavier watch, but a similar look, then just buy a 112 or a 000.

Well the titanium case is a hit and miss. Meaning its either buyers really want them or not. The 176 was my first sought Panerai. However, I went with a 112N and a 177K. Both watches I got for almost the same price with the 177 a couple of hundred more only. It is because there are a few demand for these 176 and 177. For a nice 176 you can get them for 4k with an H to J serial. On the Pam 112 same year can be had for around 3700.

If it will be a keeper like my 177 will be then you will enjoy the 176. But if you are a flipper a 112 or 111 is the best. You will flip it faster.

loving my 176... I love the feeling of the watch on the wrist and it's a close call between it and my 312. I'm actually picking up a 372 tomorrow, but I'm not sure it'll be a keeper as the 176 would have to go!
