Your watch and your friends

Hi Everyone,

Looking to get some thoughts.

Does anyone feel a bit awkward when going out with your friends and you are wearing a heavy hitter piece (pm) and they either done have a watch or are wearing a much lesser model but do look at your wrist every 10 minutes.

To me I feel a bit odd wearing it like I’m doing too much?

Sounds like their problem and not yours. Wear proudly.

Ha no I don't feel bad, but I'm also not flaunting my watch either. The folks I roll around with don't typically wear a watch like those here on the forums anyhow. Hell most probably haven't even noticed I upgraded from a TAG Aqua Racer to a new Sub Date.

Not at all. My close friends know I've been into watches forever and I've even gotten them into watches. My other friends have no idea was an AP or Patek is so I'll usually wear those even over a SS rolex.

You are overthinking the situation. If they are not into watches, they really couldn't care less. If they are into watches, they stop caring after roughly 1 min.

Very few will notice your watch. Wear what you want and don't worry about others.

It's my obsession not theirs. It's not their fault they have a weak wrist game. Or is it?

My friends have their own interests, as I have my own, for which there exists mutual respect.

That’s what makes us “friends”.

I only feel odd when my friends think I’m covering the bar tab because they believe I make more than them. Fairly certain I do, that being said, Rolex can depending on the economic level your friends make you more subjected to individuals you love and care about purposely or sometimes slightly taking advantage of you.

Doing too much?

Well, if you start off by saying the Bentley is in the shop and you had to take the Rover, and the valet moved the seat without asking, and to make it better you could really use a dirty martini with 3 Spanish olives and Ciroc or nothing, followed by asking the waiter to list off all the gluten-free appis, then yes, the Narco watch might just be adding to the overall potential douchery.

If you just say hello and ask how everyone is doing and let the ladies order first, you should be fine.

Touché! I’ll join you.

Reminds me of my favorite movie “Tombstone” - a line spoken by Doc Holliday.
Jack Johnson: Doc, you ought to be in bed, what the hell you doin' this for anyway?
Doc: Because, Wyatt Earp is my friend.
Jack Johnson: Hell, I've got lots of friends.
Doc: I don't.

I buy and wear my Rolexes for my enjoyment and no, I don't feel awkward around others. I have friends who spend far more on bass boats, sports cars, antique firearms, quarter horses, etc. It's your money and your decision on how to spend it. The important thing IMO is to not flaunt it.

When I was a teen and growing up worrying about what others thought of how I dressed my Dad used to say:

“Son, if you go through life worried what others think, you’ll have a miserable life!”

Words to live by.

Kind of this. Handful of apple watches and a fitbit or two... I don't think they care and there are a few really wealthy people in the bunch. Can't keep up in the car department though. Really, a Rolex is not that extravagant in the larger scheme of things. Just discretionary income choices.
