I feel so grown up

I just put my watches in a safety deposit box. Great feeling to get those out of the house. Wondering how many of you use safety deposits for your collections?

Flying from the US to Australia today, wearing my Sub and put my DJ41 in the safe dep box. I feel a little safer this way though nothing is 100% guaranteed.

I’d never wear mine if they were stored away from my house. Plus I quite like to get the watch box out and ogle the collection from time to time.

I think this is the extreme exception and not the rule, obviously. I think 99.9% of safe deposit boxes are, well ... safe.

I keep about half my collection (14-15 watches) in a safe deposit box, which of course are the expensive ones.

I opened a new safety deposit box in my bank two weeks ago, but only put warranty cards and books in (with silica gels and zipper bags).

Most watches are water proof, but not the books and papers.

The watches are still at home. It will be super inconvenient to go to the bank every week or even once a month, just to switch watches.

My bank is very conveniently located and it never takes me more than five minutes to park, go inside, say hello, point at the safe, switch out a watch, and be on my way.

The bank employees know me so well that I could not say anything and go sit by the safe and there'd be someone over to help me in less than a minute.

I’ve used one for many years. I keep my collection in the SDB and keep 2-4 at home for a rotation. I swap out every 2-3 weeks, usually during lunch since it’s a quick process and near my work.

I was interested in getting one but decided against it when I asked the bank about what happens if the contents go missing. Basically I wasn't covered at all. I asked if they would provide insurance for a fee. They did not. I called around and my home & contents and jewelry insurers wouldn't offer cover for items stored in a safety deposit box either (they all said it was on the bank to do that).

A safe is best. Whether it’s in a bank or at home.

If at home, a good alarm system and monitoring service helps reduce the time any burglars have inside the home.

SDBOX is the best.

$80 a year and fully insured.

And you get to keep your local bank branch in business.

Might want to rethink that safe deposit box strategy.

Nothing is absolute.

It is possible that some international gang of thieves is going to break into my bank building, tear through the floor above the safe, cut through the safe itself, or simply blast the door off, and break in to several dozen deposit boxes for whatever happens to be in there, but the odds are practically astronomical.

I'd never wear the ones I kept at a bank. I think it's a pain to get them out of my safe at home (so I'm lazy, so what)

I wouldn’t be worried about a break-in as much as I would be about an inside job. I have both a safety deposit box and a safe.

An inside job is almost as unlikely, but we all must take certain risks.
