Looking for suggestions for a chronograph under 7.5k
My main two watches currently are a SubC no date and a Grand Seiko SBGA407 (Skyflake) and I'm looking to add a chronograph in the collection.
My criteria is has to be 40mm or less, can't be a speedmaster (I've had and sold one), and I'd like it to be under 7.5k (can be new or used). I really like the style of the Tudor Heritage Chrono Blue but at 42mm it's just too big for my wrist. I'm interested to hear your suggestions. |

The new IWC Spitfire Chrono with the in house movement is very nice. I tried one on recently and almost fell for it, but I have other things on my list.
41mm but wears smaller. |

I second the IWC 3706 as long as you can live w the rotor wobble and thickness of this Valjoux based chrono. It is a beautiful and very versatile watch as you can swap between strap and the fabulous pyramid bracelet. You'd also save a sizeable portion of your 7.5k budget.
I tossed a coin almost 20 years ago and ended up getting the plain Jane IWC 3253 / Mark XV instead. Still my beater these days despite lots of use and abuse over the years. |

A Tudor Fastrider Black Shield with the black strap/red stitching would be my choice.

I really like that Tudor you mentioned. The blue and orange combo goes quite nicely. Maybe wearing it on a nato would fit better? Really hard to beat the style, price, and history there.
The Zenith 38mm tri-color is also a popular choice. |

I have looked into the El Primero 38 and the Breguet Type XX. I've never had the chance to try either on but saw the case thickness on the Breguet is 14.4mm. Anyone have experience with it and does it wear incredibly thick?

I would 2nd the Zenith El Primero.. I have the 42mm and it is a fantastic watch. Great movement with history. I would be hard pressed to think of a better chrono at the El Primero's price point.

Is it a sports chrono or dress chrono you are looking to add?

Have you looked into the older Tudor chronographs, like the following?

Looking for suggestions for a chronograph under 7.5k
Quote:
For your budget how about a Ulysse Nardin Berlin 1 or Berlin 2. 38.5 mm dress piece in SS or gold but it is rattrapante so a clear step up the horological ladder. Berlin 1 has small time at 3. Berlin 2 has standard time at centre with second time zone at 3. Both come in various metals and dial colours. |

As the 3706 has been mentioned, I'd say the IWC 3714, or the newer, in-house version, 3716
https://monochrome-watches.com/the-n...-the-old-3714/ Looks stunning with a blue dial. The Breguet XX would be another one... The Blancpain LeMan big date is a wonderful option.

The chronographs you should go for are: zenith el primero, speedmaster, breitling navitimer. Bonus is a glashutte original

I would second the Zenith Heritage. It is a great size and not too thick. I would also suggest trying the Zenith CP-2. It is big at 43mm, but the lugs curve down compared to the 42mm Zenith models. Another model to check out would be a Jaeger Master Control Chronograph. It is 40mm and about 13mm thick. The 3 are well priced if looking for preowned.

My thoughts...
Option 1: JLC Master Chrono (other dial options available) Option 2: El Primero A384 |

My thoughts:
Breguet Type XX-- great classic with a nice bracelet, but it's a real strap monster, too. GP 4956-- wears a little bolder than the Breguet and came with a bunch of dial colors. |

I would try to snag a newer model Breguet Type for this price point (3817) and yes it does wear thick but it is a beauty so the trade off will be up to you.
