Tudor GMT new vs Rolex GMT Vintage
Hey guys,
need your help in chosing one of them. Pro Tudor: Not everybody has it, new movement, water resistance, Vintage look, but "new", 1st gmt in the tudor line up Con Tudor: Size and thickness of case, no cyclops (dont know if this is a con), maybe it will remind me of not being the "original" (dont know it this will be a problem for me) Pro Rolex: Also, not often seen, "smaller" case, also thickness, the "original" Con Rolex: How to check, if everything is ok - I am no watchmaker, nor can open the case and check; with papers/without, what about movement-problems coming soon, who can repair this, prices are high Can you help me in giving your personal opinion, that I can make a brainstorming. Maybe I have overseen something and the thread here helps me in finding a conclusion. Thanks, Nick |

I'm lucky to own both, the Tudor is just Ok, it hardly gets worn. The Rolex is a beauty and i feel great every time I slip it on and look at it. No contest Rolex GMT. |

This is the best opening line on the internet. Agree OP if you have the funds for the Rolex one you will likely enjoy it more albeit I do understand the value of Tudor’s GMT I’m waiting for the BLRO myself and it will be worth it

5 digit Rolex if your budget allow you to buy it. Otherwise Tudor represent a decent fallback position.

Value for the $ goes to Tudor. Deadly accurate, modern movement, available factory strap options.

No wrong answer here [as some Rolex owners would lead you to believe] and those who own both are lucky to have them. dP

Just to be clear, when you say "Rolex GMT vintage", are you specifically referring to the 5 digit 16710? If that's the case, I owned the Tudor for about 6 months before making the move to the 16710. What I should have gone with all along. The Tudor GMT is a great watch, but as has been discussed, the case thickness and overall "chunkiness" makes it difficult to wear as a daily. The 16710 is great, but not perfect either. The tradeoff is the bracelet. It has hollow center links and while lighter, feels less solid on the wrist. In the end I prefer it to the Tudor.
Good luck with your decision

Two different watches. I would not buy one OR the other, I would buy whichever fits your needs better.
The Rolex is the more expensive fancy noticeable watch The Tudor is the less expensive tooly under the radar watch Take you pick based on your needs. |

Edit - If talking "vintage" I assume you mean the 16710 variety
I went from a 16710 to a Tudor. I don't really compare them directly but I prefer the Tudor based on the size, weight, more robust bracelet, and modern movement with 70 hour power reserve. Price also something to consider since Tudor less than half the cost. My comments above were related to the six digit GMT |

Odd pair to be asking advice about. One is around three times the price of the other.
It’s like asking “Hey Guys, should I buy the Toyota or the Mercedes?” |

There are countless threads where members are trying to decide between a Rolex and a Tudor. Considering there are very few "true GMT" options available, I don't find this odd at all. It's not always about price.

If funds allow, I’d go Rolex having owned both. No bad choices here as long as you are happy with the wear of the Tudor.

Most will say the Rolex but there are a few things to consider. One being you’re buying a 15-20 year old piece and may not be comfortable knowing condition / authenticity etc. The second that I personally struggle with is whether a 16710 is worth as much (or more than) a 6 digit.
Money no object, a mint 16710 with solid end links and holes case for me. Money is an object for most though so it’s a tough choice. |

I have the Tudor GMT, really like it (don't have a Rolex GMT yet), so here are some thoughts:
Pros: Legibility, really nice, larger dial, minute hand goes all the way out, like that. Easier to see the time at the 15 minute mark without the cyclops. Love the thin lugs, comparable to the 5 digit Rolex. More versatility with a nato or leather strap. Love the satin bracelet that hides the hairlines. The Solid end links don't extend beyond the lugs; great for those of us with smaller wrists. 70 hour power reserve; 5 digit Gmts won't have that. More available from AD; you can buy at MSRP (discount?) with your name on the warranty. Like that Tudor is more low key. I actually can take it with me when I travel out of country, and not worry as much that I will draw unwanted attention. |

Okay here are some cons that I have found with my Tudor GMT:
Has been cosc, but not as accurate as Rolex +-2sec. Mine is -3sec per day. Worry about Date change issue, keeping fingers crossed. Thick. But surprisingly works for me, and I am not a fan of thick watches. Some state that without a half link sizing has been difficult for them to get good fit. Bezel is stiff, doesn't turn nearly as easy as my sub. Not sure how it compares to Rolex GMT. A lot of snow flake hand on that dial (3). Maybe they overdid that a bit? My wishlist (are you listening Tudor?) Adjustable bracelet, eg, glidelock. Why are we paying thousands for a watch that does not have this? Date that can be set either quickset or by gmt hourly setting (not sure that can be done?) Rolex Accuracy. Quick release bracelet/straps. Thinner case. Make it available in a BB58 size Also offer in Coke colors. |

You really have to consider wrist size and comfort. I have both 5 and 6 digit Rolex GMTs along with the Tudor. I have a 7.75” wrist. I love all the watches for different reasons. I wear the Tudor in the cockpit. It’s incredibly legible and has the best GMT hand in the market IMO. I also don’t worry when it gets a new scuff. The Tudor is chunky, but it has a slight bevel or relief on the bottom of the case. This makes it very comfortable. The five digits are extremely light and comfortable. Comparing a 5 digit to the Tudor is apples and oranges in size, weight, and price. There is no wrong answer and you can own both down the road. Buy what feels good on your wrist!

Tudor GMT new vs Rolex GMT Vintage
I would pick the Tudor BB GMT over a 4/5 digit Rolex GMT all day every day. I prefer modern watches to vintage. Although I would likely put it on some kind of NATO or rubber strap.

Really depends on if you like “vintage” or not. I generally don’t. So for me it’s the Tudor all day. I will add one of these to hang with my BLNR and BLRO as soon as I am able.

I have the Tudor, would choose the Rolex any day.
That being said, I do quite enjoy my Tudor GMT. My gripe is the thickness of the watch... always wish it were closer to the thickness of a sub... |

My Tudor GMT is far to thick and heavy on my wrist, it feels like I'm lugging a boxing glove with a horse shoe in it on my hand & arm.
The Rolex GMT feels light weight and unobtrusive. PS. I'm no dainty fella the exact opposite 6'3 and 22 stone. |

I initially thought the Tudor GMT was a very good watch, but then I had the date wheel issue that Rolex could not fix after multiple attempts. So I went shopping for a new watch and found the Ball GMT and when I put them both side by side...my perception of Tudor changed...a lot.
