Watch Shipping Question

Hey All,

I live in Canada, and want to sell a couple of my watches but am nervous about shipping cross-border into the USA. I once had a Rolex seized by customs and had to pay Rolex lawyers in New York $200 to get it back! (I did get it back, but it took months) So any advice for shipping from people who have done this fairly often? UPS? Fedex? Insurance? What to declare it as? Thank you.

I'm curious about this as well. I've always avoided shipping things across international borders due to the worry of getting caught up in customs.

You declare the item as it is and for the value it is worth. Consult the company you are using to ship the item as they are the broker of record and will assist you.

Why? Millions of packages flow through international borders all the time.

Well, the time that I had a Rolex seized, the lawyers for Rolex in New York said that buying/selling Rolex watches wasn't allowed, unless by an authorized dealer. ( hence, the seizure) So I am curious if anyone has run into this....

Their attorney's told you that directly? If that were to be true then they could go after half this forum that broadcast in plain sight the buying and selling of Rolex.

That was what they said... I spoke with one of their attorneys on the phone. They may or may not do this any more, but I can tell you, it happened to me!
Maybe they have backed off since then...it must have been 15 years ago...

Those days are over. Now harder for you to get into USA than a used Rolex watch.

Shipping is fine. Just make sure you declare everything properly.
