Fortunate to have both.

I chose the Speedmaster.

It has gone faster and farther than the Daytona.

I own both, and the Daytona is, to me, the far better watch. The Speedy Pro is incredibly legible and wears well, but the Daytona has a superior movement with a much longer power reserve, more accurate, superior bracelet and much better water resistance. It is also a bit of the PIA to wind given its small crown. I do like the automatic 9300 Speedies, but I find them to be too thick to comfortably wear. Like my Speedy, but love my Daytona.

About a year ago, I went to an Omega boutique certain that I was going to walk out with a Speedy Pro. I loved (and still do) the look and the history but I had never worn one and it turned out I hated the fit. I have relatively slim wrists and for me the Speedy just felt too big - the size across the wrist and especially the thickness (even the 40 mm ish FOIS felt too big because of the thickness). So, (not ready to spend 4x for a Daytona) I ended up shortly thereafter buying an Explorer 114270, which I love.

Eventually I tracked down a Daytona 116520 and it fits like a glove.

this is the an important difference especially with black dial daytonas. I think the new Ed white speedy with the 321 is this first speedy i prefer to the daytona. The trouble they went through to revive and display an anachronistic movement is more interesting/fun to me than having one of the most advanced modern chronograph movement in the caliber 4130. Kinda like 6 speed or Dual Clutch...

Nice that Omega has 41, 42, 44mm cases.
Nice that Omega allows you to put leather, rubber, or fabric strap without buying a new watch.
Nice that Omega has a date.

I still would choose Daytona though!

I chose Daytona, but not by much. I miss my old 3592 speedy.

Side by side, is the current Daytona "better" than the current Speedmaster? I think so. Is it $10K+ better? Not at all.

I know better is subjective. I prefer the Speedy, hence why I own it.

How can you even start to answer this question?

You have speedmasters that range from 3k to 100k. 60 years worth of variations, limited editions in all different sizes, shapes, colors.

Same with the Daytona.

Can you be more specific about your budget, wrist size, vintage, modern?
SS Bracelet? Leather? Rubber?

At the price this Speedmaster can be picked up for - I think its 10000x better for the money you spend.

I know this is a Rolex forum, but the Speedmaster is the most iconic chronograph of all time. No offense to the Daytona but one went to the moon and the other was photographed on the salad dressing guy. Speedmaster wins.

Well, one costs $3500-6000 and the other 4-6 times that so I would hope there is a significant spread.

I have both (“sapphire sandwich” and black Daytona).

I chose the one that gets more wrist time.

Daytona

I like the Daytona and find myself wanting one sometimes, but I think the Speedmaster is an overall cooler watch given its history and robust looks. The Speedmaster still gives off that utility/tool vibe, where as I feel Daytonas have completely jumped the shark into jewelry territory (not good or bad, I just like the tool-watch vibes more). I've heard some say that no collection is complete without a Speedmaster, but never heard anyone say that about a Daytona (probably cuz you can never get one LOL). I think it's pretty telling how close the polls are given this is a Rolex specific forum. Anyway, the new Speedmaster Ed White with the 321 column wheel chrono movement is super cool, and I myself own the Speedmaster 57 LE, so I'll go with Speedmaster.

Saw this one at an Omega boutique in London and it is truly an exceptional watch! Very very beautiful!!! And agree, that you get a great watch for the price.

Cool watch, but at 44.25mm x 15mm it is just too big for many wrists.

Yes I agree about the size. IF Omega released this exact same model in 40-42mm I'd buy one in a heart beat.

I've never tried on one. Does anyone have a picture of this one on a 6.5-6.75 inch wrist? Is it larger than a AP ROO 42mm or a SkyD?

If its around the same size I can pull that off.

If this model was available in 42mm, I'd be all over it.

Same! I hope they make that change one day. The current dimensions are way too big IMO. Give me 40/41/42 and I’ll be happy!

Classic manual wind speedy with plexi Daytona if you can get it at retail is good value, the 4130 is magnificent.

Had plenty of opportunity to buy a Daytona over the years but didn’t , I think it’s the legibility of the dial that put me off buying one . It’s a great watch though & early versions of the Daytona are just lovely to look at , but the classic chronograph to me is the Speedmaster professional with hesalite.

Tim Mosso has 16cm/6.3in wrist. The watch is only 49.8mm lug to lug in spite of being 44.25mm in diameter. It wears like a 42mm.

The Daytona's screw down pushers render it an expensive OP.
