Bought a Yacht Master II today 😀

I’m very pleased with my 2014 116680 that I bought in Hatton Garden, London today.
I viewed all the usual sub, gmt, sea dwellers etc. but the yacht master II really stood out to me, I know many don’t like it but I certainly do!
It just seemed more interesting with it’s beautiful white dial

Welcome to our cult…I mean “club”. I am a Yacht Master II super fanboy. It’s a Rolex masterpiece and stands alone in what it can do as a “programable mechanical fly back/forward” count down chronograph. I consider it a “grail level” piece for the advanced horological enthusiast. It wears thin and balanced for its size.

I hate talking about the vulgarity of money and watches but it is worth noting: The first generation only dipped into that low of a price point years back when the Rolex market wasn’t super crazy. The second generation with the updated dial and hands never went below its $18k+ msrp. Now we are into $22-23k for the second generation NIB and the first gen is following just under it. When/if this watch gets discovered more or god forbid discontinued, prices will double over night. Like the LVc, Daytona, etc.. there were a time when they were not discovered and priced low. The YMII is a halo Rolex watch with low production numbers so expect prices to go nuclear if it gets more mainstream but traditionally, Rolex priced its YMII msrp high to begin with so it kept it above the average Rolex buyer and mainstream models. It’s a different Rolex market and now and $20k+ models are being considered more so it could be the next perfect storm. That’s why I got off the fence lusting after this model the last 5 or so years. The Rolex market isn’t getting better. I have been following our forums trusted sellers and their very low YMII inventory and every time they get one in, it sells out quick. Coincidently, every time they get one, they also also raise the price incrementally and it’s still sells just as quick. I am very price conservative but the YMII “feel’s like a $25k watch on the wrist. One of the few I actually feel is still a Rolex bargain for what you get.

Congratulations OP. You dare to be different, follow your taste and avoid the hype.

I've always liked the steel YM II. It's different, quirky with a super cool countdown complication to boil my eggs à la coque or mi-mollet. I'd totally wear one.

At last a TRF member buying a YM II. Congrats OP, its a fine piece. I’ve said for years that this watch is way too misunderstood on this forum. I fell in love with it almost at first sight, but simply didn’t want the the blue dial since I have the smurf. So I went for the WG and love it. I couldn’t figure out (and still can’t) why TRF members resoundingly deride this variant. The chrono24 graph says it all, this is a sleeper. Unloved by the masses, low volumes sold, and future desirability guaranteed. The YMII will be the modern 4 digit Daytona in 10 years. To become Extremely desirable but the low volume sold will send it skywards.
