white 116
black 116

more solid & strong look + more character.. 126 looks a bit weak after a while - to me.

on the contrary to that "ocd" hype about lugs, i like the asymmetrical lugs of 116. it has a character to it, it's been like that since 80's.

Nice comparison shot. But why do you prefer the 116 over the 126??

On the black 126 we see the highlighting of the more silver rings around the subdials, but I never had any complaints about the 116 to begin with.

If any of us had been tasked with updating the Daytona, I really wonder if anyone would have thought the ring around the bezel is a great idea. I guess we’re more accepting of whatever Rolex does.

I have the 116500 in black and would not trade it for the newer model…I like the bezel and dial much more…looks more beefy to my eyes.

When the new reference 126500 came out last year, I was not a fan at all. Got to see both black and white dial versions in person and now in love with them! Honestly never cared for the all black ceramic insert so the metal ring around the bezel is a winner for me. Plus I truly enjoy the slimmer look of the indices and sub dial rings. Sold both my black and white 116500 and now waiting on the call for the 126500.

That's a bit like saying it's unbalanced because it only has a crown on the 3 o'clock side.

Agreed...I felt the new 12 series is a "watered down" version of the Daytona. I personally love the fat rounder hour markers on the 11 series, the thin asymmetrical lugs. I also own a TT YM40 and I felt the 12 series was very similar to that case shape/size....so for me it was even easier to pick the 11 series....

The 126500ln has improved certain aspect of the design while paying tribute to the earlier Daytonas
1. Thinner counter rings which resembles the Zenith Daytona
2. Bezel with outer metal rings of the older Daytonas
3. Symmertical lugs
4. Redesigned case with contoured lugs to sit better on wrist
5. Chronograph pusher slightly bigger for easy operation

My pick will be the 126500LN Panda

116500 - I'm partial to the black dial because I love the sunburst affect on the silver subdials against he flat glossy black dial.

The 116500 is perfect to me - probably the 38mm case. That's just a sweet spot on my wrist.

And it is this mix of tribute that I find actually ends up workings against the new Daytona. Dial like a Zenith (sans the centered subdials), outer ring like a 4 digit and then a new case - so you end up with a weird mix of different era Daytonas mashed into one.

Point 3 and 4 are kind of the same - the new case. Here I strongly prefer the old case which goes way back in design. For me, that is paying tribute to the older Daytona’s but of course YMMV.
Regarding point 5, I don’t personally know anyone that has trouble using the old pushers (but I know plenty that don’t use the chronograph at all due to the screw down pushers though).

Great choice. I own the 116500 white and 126500 black. I love my 126500 so much, im considering trading my 116 white for the new reference.

I’d like to see pictures of your 116/126 side by side, or different angles ..

I like the bigger / bolder subdials of the 11 Series Black Dial … that dial just pops for me.

I prefer the black in either 11 or 12….toss up imo.

I do think the 12 has a more sophisticated look bit you’d never notice unless you saw them side-by-side though.

i think we get caught up in traditions since we are on a rolexforum. part of that comes with being rigid against change. things like case shape or classic sizes changing. rolex knows best, i think most random people on the street would point at the more modern/refined looking watch as the 126500

Let’s be honest, most people on the street would tell you that you are crazy and that it is the same watch

With regard to traditions, changes and Rolex knows best - every person I have showed the different Daytona models think the 6263 is the best looking of them all.

Depends on which one someone have or gets in the future….

If they have a 116500, then the 116500 is the greatest thing since oxygen was discovered.
If they have a 126500, then the 126500 is the greatest thing since the sun was around.
If they have both 126500 and 116500, then their male genitals are so huge it could possibly rival the length of the Great Wall of China!

been said before, but after the dust settles, and the honeymoon ends:

116 White
126 Black

the 126 series does grow on you like a fine wine,
the 116 hits like soda pop, then... not as much details to satisfy by comparison
