Or it's in the 'Return to Normal' part of the chart... right before it implodes, lol.

I issue is not the end user buying this but it's grey buying from grey's in the hope to flip it for more money. Resembles 2008/2009 a lot except it was housing back then .. typical signs of a bubble.

Someone is pumping and dumping BTC. Same couldnt be said about Patek watches since the supply doesnt go from "right hand to left hand" in a very unregulated market.

Yes!
Think it’s probably pushing selected watches, and post-war and contemporary art as well.

Agree.

I think the way to look at Chrono24 is like the offer side of a stock baikai...
if you want to pay 100k for a 5711, sure, there is liquidity there. Doesn’t mean it is going to trade there... and as the price moves in that direction, you could also see that liquidity change. And like you mentioned, there is no visibility for the demand/bid side.

Quick story:
I went for a stroll in Ginza yesterday and stopped by two reputable gray dealers. The bid for my white 5711 a good clip below what chrono24 is telling me.

I think at this point, I’d hit a slightly better bid... I just don’t get that level of enjoyment out of it?
Buy what you like and don’t lie to yourself... I should have paid up for a 5712 when the chance was there.
That ship has sailed.

Chrono24 and the big greys' top prices are an indication of where median prices are going to be in a few months and so far that has been the case for a couple of years, only difference is that it is shortening to weeks now so there is an escalation which would point to some sort of topping in a normal market, but the watch market is far from a normal market.

A data point: this mint 5712 from 2015 just sold on the forum, asking was 59000 Euro / $66K USD so I'm assuming it sold at this or less. Private seller in Cyprus, so no doubt will be less than an unworn example from a major market trusted seller, but also not anywhere near the Chrono24 asking prices.

Nice profit for that guy. Will be interesting to see where the market takes these. Not that it matters to me as my 5712 would be the very last one I would ever sell.

Well StockX shows the demand side of things, with clear asking prices: 5711 (ask-bid: 41k USD) and 5711R (ask-bid: 72k USD).

So pretty much 5711 would be a premium but just not the crazy premium currently asked on chrono24. Even if the 2nd hand market corrects, people who bought retail will be fine on reselling as there will be demand at the 40-50k range and 70-80k range for the R.

I kind can understand some discontinued pieces going for a fair bit more as collectors keen to get them but can't really understand why would pay so much for current production pieces. I guess plenty of people who have money and have no inclination to wait. I did hear someone locally sold a 5711 sealed for over 90k USD here.

DavidSW has a 5711 blue that’s been sitting at 69k for awhile. I have doubts there are buyers at 90k for these.

It took me a month to sell a BNIB 5711 white for 42k just 6-9 months back.

If you believe dealers marking things sold means a damn thing your being fooled me thinks.

Of course prices will vary depending on geographics, but I know of a 2010 5712 that just sold for $79K and a 2016 5711 that sold for $64K locally here in Denmark. Both within 14 days after being put up for sale.

In my example it was sealed in box which I gather is pretty rare these days as Patek AD normally opens now. One for collectors I guess.

Agreed. I don't believe them all the time.

In other news: WF has a 5711/1R for only £94,500 ($120,000 USD).

I have been following their prices. May be a week or two ago they had a 5711R listed for £ 87750, 1 year and 9 months warranty was left on the watch. It was gone after a few days. They also had a 2015 5711A blue listed for around £ 55000 ( I can't recall the exact price) and it was gone in few days too.

Now they have a 5711R with 1 year and 9 months warranty listed for £ 94500 and a 2015 5711A listed for £ 59950.

Is this a co-incidence?
