Hello, after almost two months spent on my safe (which is not near the shower or steam) my royal oak is stained and now shows oxide stains.

Has anyone seen something similar ? What should i do ?

You should definitely have put it in the safe instead of on it.
Defo should contact AP.

Is it a real or fake AP?

Just have a look at the lug hole. It looks like someone worked on it with not proper screwdriver.

I would be very suprised it this was a real AP.

Well gold does tarnish. So I'd ask myself what can the watch have come in contact with... Some detergents like chlorine can tarnish gold.

Try washing it with dishwasher liquid and warm water. You can use a soft toothbrush too.

I work hands on with gold in my business every day, 24 carat gold can't tarnish but APs rose gold is 18 carat i.e 75% gold. The 25% is madd up of silver & copper and obviously silver does tarnish quickly

My advice would be to send it to AP however if you want to try to clean it I would gently wipe it with a product designed for cleaning silver and work in the direction of the grain pattern in the gold.

That's a real AP for sure!
I believe most people don't realize how dirty their wrist watch is, especially if they sweat a lot and wear their watch all the time. The oxide stains maybe due to your sweat and moist that buildup during the time spent in your safe. You may not realize that your salty sweat, dead cells and dirts are building up each time you wear your watch and overtimes can you imagine how dirty it's without giving your watch a good simple cleaning by yourself. It will be a good practise to use liquid solution/running water to wash your watch and use a hair dryer to dry it thoroughly before keeping in your safe, this will help oxide stains from building up.
As for your oxide stains on your watch there is nothing to be alarm of, try the above but made sure the crown is lock down tightly. If the stains still don't go away, then contact AP.

I would contact AP. That shouldn't thappen unless you got in contact with some pretty harmful chemicals.

Not uncommon with yellow gold watches, gold oxidize. My friends Day-Date also showed similar spots nad it cleaned off with a little hand soap.

Alf, I hate to side with the pessimists above: gold should not oxidize. In its pure form, it is one of the least reactive elements in the universe.

Ever heard of a "rusty gold wedding ring"?

I would turn to AD as soon as possible.

I already contacted AP, the watch went into warranty, sadly they are going to polish it.

They told me this problem is very normal in rose gold, and that it may have occurred with hand cream or perfume.

Not the best solution, but it was the only one given by AP

AP gold does change with time. Just be sure to clean your watch more often.

For me, I clean my watches every morning before I wear them.

Soap, water or Veraet and it looks brand new.
