Who has a new Seiko 5?

Like it? Thoughts?

I had the all black one for a few days. I ended up returning it, only because I already have an SKX007 and thought it was redundant. I actually quite liked the Seiko5 for what it was, just didn't see myself wearing it often enough to keep.

They do have different colors

I am overbooked in black and blue. They do have a couple in green, which is unusual for my collection ( not including my green Alpinist).

Just gone mine yesterday! I think it’s a nice upgrade visually from an SKX in that the indices have metallic rings. The movement also is an improvement as you get hacking and hand winding.

It’s a downgrade in water resistance from 200M to 100M and no screw down crown, though to me that’s a plus as Seiko screw down crowns are finicky.

The bracelet is 22mm with no taper. I have ordered a strapcode super oyster to replace it.

I chose the “Hulk” green version which I thought looked very nice in person. I got mine for 25% off from a dealer at the local mall

Here is the options they had:

I like your pick! I just ordered a green Sumo. Unfortunately for me, about triple the price.

That’s exciting about the Green Sumo. I’m really interested in that as well especially with the 70 hr power reserve. My main concern is how it would fare on my small wrists. Looking forward to a review when you get it!

My wrist is 6.5 inches, so I am hopeful it doesn’t look like a manhole cover

I should get it in a week or so, so pix up then unless it is embarrassingly big.

I had a 44mm Panerai that I sold as too big, so we’ll see. I am optimistic based on my extensive Seiko history.

Triple the price!?!? Yikes. If you don't mind me asking, why was it so expensive?

Upgrade!

It has a sapphire crystal instead of hardlex and an upgraded movement with a 70 hour power reserve.

Expensive for a Seiko, inexpensive for a watch with an auto movement. A gray market Rolex Hulk goes for $14K, the Seiko $780.

Ah. Sorry. I thought you meant you paid triple the price for the same watch as the other poster. My bad.

No problem. Seiko 5 vs. Sumo. Different watches. Is the Sumo worth triple? In eyes of beholder.

Does the new Seiko 5 have the same case dimensions as the SKX007? I have a custom belhamel strap on my SKX and wondering if it will fit the new Seiko 5.

Put mine on a Strapcode Super-O bracelet. I think it’s a big improvement. The non-tapered stock bracelet looks kinda funny. Also the solid end links look a lot higher-end

Macy's is practically giving them away with their pricing. Anywhere from $165.93 to $196.87 for the various Seiko 5's. Plus if you use eBates you get an additional 10% cash back.

I had one (or two) sitting in my Checkout cart for some time. Until I remembered that I was supposed to be consolidating.

Thanks for the heads-up. I just snagged a couple of deals.

Up here in the Great White North they have been available only through Hudson's Bay Dept stores. Some observations, case is identical to Skx007/09, and yes has 4R36 (hack-manual wind movement) but of the various models I had in my hands bezels are sloppy and often misaligned as compared to skx and chapter ring can also not line up correctly. Just feels like it's not as well made. And since we all know how people like to Mod the original, might as well just source a 4R36 or NH36, it's generic cousin and drop it in a 007!
IMHO
I do like the variuos colour/case options though!
