Sounds like you already made a decision. I personally would choose a 6 digit reference over a 5 or 4 digit because it fits my aesthetic preference.

I have and love both for different reasons. It's hard to say if I prefer one over the other, they're the same but wear so differently. One wears like a big 40mm and ones wears slightly small for a 40mm to me. The one thing I can say for sure, ok 99% sure is that you will love it.

Ceramic and it’s not even close. Bracelet is miles ahead and you get glidelock

I think the question is how do you love the older subs, not what do the majority here think of the watch. If it sings to you, get it. If it doesn't, don't just get a watch because it's popular.

"Ceramic Bezel" is a marketing gimmick used by Rolex to sell more watches. While "glidelock" is a nice feature if you dive with a wetsuit, might not work out.

I prefer the modern 6 digit. The Glide lock clasp is amazing and worth the price of admission.

There's the issue of more permanent links on the 5 digit bracelet, and the tuna can clasp, which I just can't warm up to, aesthetically.

With fewer permanent links and the glide lock, the 6 digit sub is a slam dunk for me. But hey, sounds like you're happy, and that's all that counts.

Do you find the new sub to be too bulky compared to the old one?

No sir, not bulky at all, substantial yes and in a good way. Bulky to me was my Tudor BB Heritage 41 inhouse which I sold for the eta version which still is slightly larger and thicker than the SubC which wears better and more comfy than the BB41. To me the Gmtll has the perfect proportions for a 6 digit sports piece and the 14060 is the best of the 5s. Both Subs feel good on the wrist and I find it very hard to choose a fave. If I had to suggest one to you I'd give the edge to the new SubC if your wrist is 6 3/4+ Its larger in a good way and its maxi dial is hard to beat plus it's brand new with everything, 5 year warranty for the same price as a used 5 digit piece. No worries..

I own a 6 digit, would take a 5 digit over a 6 digit anytime of the day.

5 over 6 any day of the week and twice on weekends! Glidelock is nice, but can live without it!

Six digit reference all day long. So many improvements.

Like the 16610 for its vintage appeal, but that's it.

Punctuation Police beware, this is the "lay him out" guy.

Some say the 5 digit wears more comfortably but the 6 digits with all the modern features is just a nicer piece IMO. That being said, comfort should be #1 otherwise you wont want to wear it.

I prefer the case of the 5 digit sub. I think Rolex will go back to this in their next sub update

Which ever way you go its a great choice. They are both beautiful watches but if I had to only pick one it would be Sub C

Just throwing this out there - take it how you want...can you honestly afford the watch if you’re doing lay away?

A good rule of thumb is you should AT LEAST be able to buy two, then you can afford it.

Maybe look at moving one of your other two Rolex pieces instead of marginalizing yourself.
