In fact, even I am surprised that after all these years, the colors have not faded much.

I suspect that it is because most of its life was spent under the cuff. We were expected as physicians, back in those days, to wear full sleeved shirts (white of course..) to avoid unnecessary skin contact with patients.
Also, I do not sleep or shower wearing the watch.

Although once, to my horror, a beaker full of formaldehyde spilled onto my wrist, soaking the watch...! Fortunately a sink was at hand to give it a quick wash... and limit the damage.
