another curious 1002 dial
Good day, gurus,
I have attached a photo of a recently purchased Rolex identified as a 1002 model with an early cal. 1530 butterfly movement. It came with a nice expansion bracelet. (The dial is actually white/silver - I don't have any color correcting software in my office computer. Yeah, I know i should be working, but...). At any rate, what interests me is the type face on the dial. The Rolex logotype seems thin -- not as bold as later examples. For that matter, the rest of the dial's legend appears "understated." I'm wondering if the dial had been cleaned at some point at the expense of the original lettering or is this the way dials looked back then. Another curiosity is the hand shape. I would think they'd be pointed. Newer hands, perhaps? Also, the Rolex logotype stamped on the bracelet is very small -- sort of along the lines of the dial lettering. So, basically, I'm wondering if Rolex dials (and bracelets) underwent a logo style change in the early '60's since my 1962 1002 has a much more "modern" look? Hmmmm. Thanks, Craig Craig Roberts Washington, DC |

The dial has been refinished, would need to see bracelet stamping to make a comment on that
