Time for a service!

Great info as usual Bas. How similar is the movement to the 3035. Is the basic architect the same, just with the added GMT complication.

How about compared to the modern GMT movements. I was always under the impression the 31xx were just evolutions of the 30xx movements.

Very cool stuff, thank you for posting! A thread like this is a welcomed breath of freshness from the back & forth about grey sellers & which watch should I wear while mowing the lawn threads. I thought my dentist was good with small tools, you put that MFer to shame

I've been wondering why I spend so much time reading stuff here, and how so many of the threads fall into the same several topics. And then this! Bam! Really fun, interesting stuff.

Thanks Bas. Like everyone else, loving this thread.

Subscribed and thank Bas - love your threads!

Only one question... at what stage of the process do you use that HAMMER? Is it when you find leftover parts after reassembly?

So cool!! Thanks for sharing.
Out of curiosity, would a complete service and overhaul like this cost the owner?

The 85 is indeed a bit different on the dial side, it is basically just a 3035 with a GMT mechanism.
The 30×× is just different from the 31××, you can clearly see things that are very similar to the 15×× like for example the date wheel, but the way the gear train is build up is more in line with the more modern 31××.

a hammer is used for taking out the rotor axle and riveting a new one

No but sometimes you can forget the stopper for the balance, that long thin brass/gold looking thingy. Everything functions perfectly fine without it, just can't hack the movement without it.

I did see it. Not sure what to think of it. Like Scott (watchmaker) said, it was probably not without a good reason that the account got pulled.

Bas- are you working for RSC? If not, can members here contact you for service when the time come? Lately with all the disheartening RSC stories about careless from their watchmakers make me nervous to send anything to RSC USA.
