Incoming!!! The one to rule them all!

After buying a WG Daytona and a TT ladies datejust, we were told that I would be first on the list for a SS DaytonaC. A year passed, I couldn't justify beating up such as expensive WG watch and figured the SS must be coming in any day now. So I decided to sell the WG. I then approached the AD and asked him for an update only to be told that I was never put on the list and even if I were on the list, he hasn't received one. As it turns out, the corporate store gets allocations that are then given to each SA who then gives them out to their customers. Aka, I'd never get a Daytona from that store. I assumed that going to a large store in a bigger city would increase the likelihood of getting one which turned out not to be the case.

One day, I stopped by the local AD nearby to get my JLC Master Compressor polished and on a whim, decided to take a look at their Rolex selection. After spending some time with the manager there and telling him my story, he informed me that he had a Sub and GMT that just came in. Without much thought, I picked up the sub on the spot. He asked me why I wanted the Daytona and I told him that I race cars and that I actually like having a chronograph to time my friends' laps while I'm gridded up or hanging out in the paddock. The durability of Rolex, racing heritage of the Daytona, and its aesthetics made it a no brainer. He told me that he would put me on the list.

I'd check in every now and then to get my wife a present, have rings resized, and other small ticket items, not because I was trying to get the watch, but because of the awesome service I received. On Monday, only 6 months after first walking into the store, I get a text. "I have a Daytona with your name on it." I closed the laptop instantly and was in the car before I even had a chance to respond.

Once I arrived, the lady up front greeted me and immediately said, "oh, I know why you are here. That was fast!" The manager walked in the back and brought it out... The long awaited Daytona.... He told me that he liked that the watch was going to me because I am actually using the watch to do what it was meant for, racing. He asked me to swing by from time to time with the watch and maybe some pictures of it in action. I told him, of course except the next time he sees it, it probably is going to be in much worse condition since I literally do everything with my watch! All I can say is that between the excellent day-to-day customer service I received and the thoughtfulness of the manager to sell me the watch for reasons other than money, they have a life long customer.

As for the watch itself, it is better than I expected. I thought that I would miss the glidelock but so far, I haven't even noticed. It sits on the wrist perfectly, much better than the SubC. The PCL and polished lugs just glow against the brushed links. Everything is in perfect proportions and the pushers are silky smooth. It's light and most of the time, I forget that its even on my wrist. It's so much better in the flesh than I expected! I look forward to having on my wrist everyday for the foreseeable future. It will be on the wrist for mountain biking, racing, wrenching on the car, yard work, and everything in between. This is what I thought didn't exist, the perfect watch (for me).

Great story, thank you. The watch looks as fantastic as all these Daytona C’s do.

Incoming!!! The one to rule them all!

Just saw the pictures and you’re right. It’s the holy grail for Rolex now. It should be worth $100,000 someday when I’m not around. Maybe 200 years from now ? Lol.

Rolex needs to discontinued it and let only the fortunate ones to own it.
