For me they both have appeal (big help, I know). The five digits are generally less expensive than buying new or used six digit watches. I bought a recent 18238 and it was a great saving in comparison to any six digit Day Date. In many the upgrades are superficial on the six digits even though they may sound substantial.

Really nice full sets are definitely going up, which are the ones I have been tracking. Not sure about beaters. I'm guessing that there are some folks like myself that just preferred the look and feel of the five digits but want an almost new watch.

Agreed and I think this is why the Kermit is so popular - 5 digit case with maxi dial. As a daily wear my other problem with the 5 digits are the oyster bracelets and clasps. In my case they are not nearly as comfortable as the 6 digits. No matter what I try I can't get a perfect fit and the end of the old pressed clasp is either too loose or cuts into my wrist. New milled clasp is perfection in terms of comfort and adjustability. |

Agreed. I would not buy a sub with aluminum insert, especially if I can get a ceramic for an extra 1-2,000. I would guess others think the same way? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Yep, but I actually prefer the aluminium bezel inserts also. Just a subjective thing. While I appreciate the durability of ceramic it can cheapen a look to my eyes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Love the engraved ceramic bezel and the lug width issue is way overblown. In the flesh, the lugs are not nearly as wide as they look in all these wide-angle phone camera lenses. |

Chrono24 seems to say the opposite. Here, the price evolution for 14060M:
Only the last month seems to be “flat”: |

You could consider the 16610LV. It's great because it has the Maxi dial!

I find the oyster bracelet and clasp of 5-digit references so comfortable that sometimes I have to check my wrist to see if my watch is still there
No issue at all with the comfort of 5 digit models |

$8,500 is a lot of cash for an aluminum bezel Sub with an inferior movement. I wouldn't pay that for a 5 digit Sub when I could get a SubC for $10,000.
The only reason to buy that 5 digit is if you think there will be appreciation, i.e., as an investment.

Hmm, got mine in 1998 or 1999, was 3200 bucks. So depends on ones vantage point. I would say the 5 digit subs have not been on the crazy train like the gmt. However, once people figure out that they can actually obtain a 5 digit sub in exceptional condition that looks far more balanced than the current model. Look out! |

No... The 14060m 4 liners are still increasing in price. Every month the price slowly creeps up.

How does the 16610 have an inferior movement to the 116610? Both use the 3135 caliber but the 116610 has the Parachome Bleu hairspring.
I'm lucky to own both models and can't tell any difference movement-wise despite some internet article comparisons say it. My observation also is about the same power reserve. When it comes to the bracelet, 116610 wins hands down despite the added weight. No comparison there. When it comes to the dial (maxi vs. non-maxi), case, lugs, and bezel / insert, there's all user preference. |

Have 5 digit models lost some popularity?
Quote:
You could be right, although I have a hard time imagining the lugs being the decision factor, given all other benefits of a brand new model and a bezel that won’t fade in 100 years. I’m still thinking that the price drop of older Subs is due to an abundant supply of the new models. And this trend will continue until the older models hit the vintage status Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I always wanted a 16710 BLRO....since I was 5yr old....it always appealed to me. Then I tried it on. Felt tiny. Too light. Bracelet felt “cheap”. Fast forward many years, and my 6-digit BLNR and BLRO are perfection for my wrist.

For me I love that tiny/cheap feel.
When I see someone wearing a 5 digit I think old money, whereas when I see someone with a six digit I think new money. JMO |

Untrue,
I paid 5,500USD for a mint 14060M full set 10 months ago, today's price is significantly more |

Imo the 16610 will not increase much in price for all the above mentioned reasons and the simple fact that there are millions of them out there. Regardles its a classic and one that will stay in my collection |
