Looks nice. Don't know much about the 1655 but seems like the dial had a relume or a service replacement if is luminova?

Looking again at the bidders identities, I get very suspicious when the identities are private(is that a selectable option in ebay now?, normally is in s****y format I thought), could be the seller and his friends bumping the auction up. Don't see why anyone would pay so much for one with service replacements (nothing against service replacements from Rolex, a watch can still look nice with them, just that originals are more desirable and where the money is)

Probably none . . . . .
And at that price I would expect a 'correct' (numbers, bracelet, end links, etc) watch.

That's why you buy the seller, not the watch. Vintage Rolex is a trap for the unwary and those trying to get up to speed, like myself.

It is a good looking watch but the luminova dial and white date wheel are big issues in terms of originality.

The caseback sticker is surprising

I've seen this listed on ebay several times too.

Nice watch but most favor an original dial ... not that there is any 'wrong' with a luminova service dial.

If you like minty watches and do not care as much about originality its' perfect.

To me it's like classic cars; one guy like matching number engine, tranny and rear-end with the same color on the car as it left the factory. Another guy could care less if the car left the factory white and now it's red with a brand new crate motor, etc....

To each their own

Well said! This listing bothers me because the seller doesn't mention that the dial and hands are service replacements, which is HUGE for a vintage watch, of course. Sure, there's one reference to luminova, but for an uniformed buyer that might not set off alarm bells. Seems slightly sneaky in the way the watch is presented in the listing.

The bezel? and with no pics of the case back it too could be a service as this serial number should have a dated case back. There is nothing wrong with Rolex service parts on a watch IMHO if that's what you expected and wanted.

Awesome catch, Nikos!
I wish I had the skill and knowledge base to be able to do what you do!

Another reason to buy the seller and not the watch, right?

Hopefully people aren't dropping $12k on something where they don't know the difference between a luminova SWISS dial and an original dial...

Of course they are...

They will then run to Rolex forums and ask how wonderful their piece is .

There are quite a few people with more money than sense. Whether this is "Collecting" or "Common" sense. (Hint: Bernie Madoff Watch Collection).

P.S

I'm not saying this watch is worthless or anything. Its my opinion, I could find a better example for 12K.

Right on - Madoff watch collection is a classic example of more money than sense. Couple nice pieces but mostly gaudy garbage

Your asking some of the top dealers to find you a nice piece...
you realize they make a profit ...

Revised below:

I am saying, that in my opinion I could find a better example to suit my needs. Did you buy the watch on ebay...

I research the 4 sale section like I am studying for the Bar exam. Similar to the conversation I had with John yesterday, no offense to you, however, I am not a fan of the Albino hand! I have seen your offering plenty of times.
