I don't think an 80 year old, or older, man decided to sell his watch all of a sudden. The original seller could have claimed they were the child.

You mean by having it serviced by a prominent watchmaker to increase a possible sale value?

Very few people know are capable of authenticating these old, vintage 6542s - I being one of them. Hey, everyone. Sorry been busy with my family and am just now getting around to this. First of all, Happy 4th of July and hope everyone is safe out there.

As to this thread, yes, it seems this watch did not go the direction I intended and a lot of that I will own for not researching it before posting. The watch was sent in for a service and service alone. I did realize the hands were not correct, as well as re-lumed. I did not compare the dial to any other 6542 out there, just examined the case, serial numbers and tested the lume with a UV light, then focused on the repairs. As we all can see, this watch had excessive moisture damage and I believed that to be the reason why the bakelite had a yellow patina. If I were to look at the triangle and how the inside of the numbers closest to the crystal still have a lighter color which made me think nothing of it...

I appreciate Xeramic for bringing this to light and have learned much from it!

Phillip is obviously one of the best at servicing vintage pieces and this is a watch a select few of the experts would even be able to detect so appreciate him sharing and Xeramic and others for schooling the rest of us. Appreciate the follow up. I also think this is a miscommunication of whoever bought this watch and what was told to them when purchased.
