Vintage Market Opinion: Jubilee or Oyster on the GMT

Who better to ask an odd and more modern question, than the vintage collectors and experts within this community?!

I wanted to ask you your thoughts on the NEW Pepsi & Batman and which bracelet you prefer - Jubilee or Oyster?

It was always my perspective the vintage GMTs with the Jubilee Bracelet was so fitting and different. I almost felt like they were more rare (excuse my lack of knowledge if not true).

So I'm curious from your expertise, do you think this was the right move to bring it back?

Do you think the Jubilee Bracelet will be more desired than the Oyster?

Seems like a good idea to me because it can appeal to more people. Id be getting the jubilee, and Im sure there are a ton who prefer oyster.

I believe the president bracelet has been offered on the 1680/8 I think that would be a cool addition to the current lineup.

There are far fewer 16710 models around on jubilee bracelets but equally much less demand as the oyster always seems more sought after.
I’ve owned twice on jubilees and have found them more difficult to sell even when priced very competitively, the dealer that bought my excellent full set example around 6 months ago still has it for sale and it’s not over priced !

Personal preference. But I’ll share that when I bought my 1983 16750, it had a jubilee and I do think that the jubilee depressed the price a bit.

I sold the jubilee with correct endlinks (which is actually very desirable as a stand alone bracelet sale) and bought a period correct oyster 78360 with 580s and brought down my net cost of the watch even further.

Strangely enough though, I’m waiting for a BLRO and would prefer that with a jubilee for a bit of a change…

I feel like GMTs historically are typically oyster. I do like the reintroduction of oyster to the line, and prefer that variant to the new ones on jubilee.

Interesting observation. My experience has been just the opposite and I find most collectors favor the Jubilee on the 1675/16750s and also on the the later sapphire GMT models.

How about sending me a link to that GMT on a Jubilee for sale.

Very interesting to hear everyone's opinion! I feel the jubilee on vintage models is more fitting; however, it scares people away as they don't age as well.

The more modern jubilee will not have that issue.

I didn't know if form a "purest" perspective the jubilee was supposed to be more fitting for the watch.

I heard it was first released on a jubilee bracelet but never was able to have that 100% confirmed or maybe I just read something wrong.

I beg to differ. I think they will stretch all the same. More of an illusion of more quality over vintage pieces than a true difference. The pins are pulling at the same amount of metal, the added solidity between pins within the link means nothing.

Plexy (1675-1675/3 and 1675/8) on Jubelee
5 digits could be on both but Oyster I think looks more appropriate
I love the new 6 digits with the Jubelee, nice move to go back to the origins.

With that said I notice that my new Jubelee will have the same problem of the old one, meaning easier to give with time, but I don’t mind, is too confortable.
