Thinking about a couple watches......

Of these two options, which would you prefer? To be worn casually, never dressed up.
Or...option 3.
1. 5905p, blue dial
2. 5960, blue dial
3. Forum choice ???

5960 has a more classic look and the 5905 a more modern look. Personal preference as to which one you prefer. The 5960 comes with a deployant clasp, whereas the 5905 has a buckle. I would say 5960 production numbers were lower on the blue dial compared to the 5905 blue dial.

5960G is pretty similar to the 5524 to me so i would pass. The SS versions are really, really growing on me though. Figures, as soon as they are discontinued i like it.

I really like the 5905P a lot, both the black and blue. However for that money, id be looking at a Datograph or a Zeitwerk.

Wouldn’t have guessed that. Thought the PT blue dial would’ve been a lower production.

Thanks Tyler. Would you argue the 5960 has a more “traditional Patek” look than the 5524?

absolutely more traditional. But, the blue dial, brown strap and i think its the same buckle as the 5524 as well. Pushers, but on the other side gives it a similar vibe. I wouldn't want to get another sort of similar looking watch to one i had when there are so many others out there

Try both watches on if you can. The 5905 wears large and thick. The 5960 is more wearable on a smaller wrist, but still thick at around 13.5mm. Overall, I prefer the looks of the 5960.

Thanks. I thought so as well...my wrist is 6.5. I thought the 5524 was right on the verge of too big for me, and the 42mm ExpII, is about as big a Rolex that works for my wrist

My wrist is about the same size and I found the 5905p too big. The thickness, platinum case and lack of deployant (to balance out the watch) made it top heavy.

Choice 3. 5968A? If it’s for causal wear that would be my choice. For me, the first two references are dressier watches.

Agree here, too. Platinum Chrono = 5170p.

I tried to like the 5905p, but I just couldn’t come around. It was too thick and top heavy for me, and I didn’t love the lugs. And, the bullseye Chrono (on both) doesn’t work for me. YMMV

Reading back, OP didn't specify 5960P or 5960G in his original post. I was thinking of the original 5960P blue dial.

I like the 5960 better than the 5905, and the blue 5960p better than the blue 5960g. I agree with others, the 5170p would trump them all

Of the 2 specific references I prefer the modern look of the 5905P. But I'm with several others much preferring the 5170P over the 5905 and the 5960.

When u said blue dial I thought you meant 5960P blue dial , beautiful watch.
Not to keen of the 5960G, it’s nice but never a consideration.

Similar to some others, I would go for the 5170P as it is the most beautiful watch I've ever seen. However, it might be a little too dressy for your very informal lifestyle. Between the two you mention, I like the 5905P much more, perhaps because it has a similar color scheme and vibe as the 5170P. I've never tried it on though, so perhaps the lack of deployant creates a practical issue with wearability.

I don't much care for the look of the 5960. Out of respect for others who own or love it, I'll leave it at that.

As an added bonus, if you get the 5170P, along with the rest of your beautiful collection, you will likely have the collection that best mirrors my own taste! Who wouldn't want that?
