I'm old enough that a birth year watch would be a vintage item. Perhaps blasphemous to say here but to me faded bezels, corroded hands. scratched crystals or dials with issues hold zero attraction. I don't mind yellowing patina on lume but that's where I stop. So no, for me a birth year watch is no where on my wish list.

I never really thought about it so I guess it means nothing to me.

I want a birth year Rolex 1981 but dont feel like paying a premium for an old used watch that I didn't wear. On the other hand I LOVE the idea of birth watches when purchased for your kids. Have one for each of my 3 kids. AP RO 15400, AP RO RG Skeleton and Patek WG Aquanaut. I wear them for the next 20+ years and they have a nice watch that they saw their father enjoy and take care of. Hopefully they will do the same.

I have no interest in an old watch. Birth year single malt on the other hand is very appealing.

I have no desire to have a watch from when I was born. I prefer a newer one.

Was thinking the exact same thing.

I once mused the concept came from "old money" crowds will buy a nice piece of jewelry or keepsake to commemorate the birth of a child and pass it on when the child comes of age.

Then today's Facespace, MyBook and Tweeter "look at me" crowd decided it was a thing to create fake lavish stories.

It only seems nostalgic if it was owned by a loved one

This, and then leave your wear marks. Priceless
