60 now and I decided to go with a DJ w/ Wimbledon dial instead of a Sub. which I've had before....thought it was more refined, classy and casual at the same time.

I prefer Blue Sky Dwellers

If he wears suits a lot then DJ. Or, as a middle ground, an Explorer (Explorer I).

Explorer! I’m in my early 60’s, and my GMT and even my Seamaster get more wrist time than my DJ. Not saying I don’t like my DJ, it’s just a Little more dressy than the others.

As a gift I would be thrilled to receive either. If it was my choice I would go for the DJ. The fact that I have a Polar might be influencing my thinking a bit! It might be that I covet a blue DJ because I already have an Explorer. I'd still be delighted to receive either as a gift.

The DJ is a safe choice, timeless and classy but you did say he is adventurous. If he can wear a 42mm then I'd say why not go with the Expll, its fun and interesting and it wears comfy and low on the wrist.

I agree that an Exp II would be ideal but it's outside of the price range. I would choose one if it were a gift to me.

I would go with the Datejust you described.

It’s a natural choice as a subdued Adventure watch that looks fine with a suit. Tell him the story of Edmund Hillary and how this is the continuation of that lineage.

The black dial, smooth bezel and sized midway twixt a 36mm DJ and a 42mm Expl. II just makes more sense to me...

Based on your description of the individual, I'd go this route. It's sporty but still doesn't look completely out of place with business casual or even a suit.

I have a blue DJ2 and a polar Ex. 2, but best bet is to ask the recipient
