what is your least expensive reference?

not a day goes by without a thread on cost, price, value or worth. so here's another one, well sort of...

what is your least expensive reference?

how much did you pay?

when did you buy it?

where did you buy it?

why did you buy it?

16610 LV

£2650

Sept 2005

AD / England

The colour of the bezel.

Full disclosure I did think the £300 difference over the 16610 date was a lot for just a green bezel. At that time I didn't know about the maxi dial and hands.

Even now, I feel the joy in wearing it like the first time I walked out the AD with it.

I assume we are only talking Rolex references. In which case:

116610LV
8% off MSRP and no tax ($8,320).
Early June 2017
AD in Connecticut
Color of the dial/bezel. Added bonus that, at the time, it was the somewhat unloved ugly duckling by the masses.

Rolex 16570 Polar

Paid $4,195

Purchased from a forum member in November 2016

I always liked the Polar Explorer and wanted to treat myself to something nice for my birthday. Thought it would be a great start into 5 digit references.

Rolex - LVc bought for slightly under retail, £6.3K, last August, days before the taking off.

Other - Yellow Seawolf bought for £2K, great value, this year.

The new wavy SMPs look great value as well, very tempting, esp blue with grey dial.

Bought around 1981 by my Father a Daytona 6263 he went to buy a sub, but AD gave him a discount on the Daytona, cost just over £800 and cheaper than the sub, at this time Rolex could not give them away Daytona was a very very poor seller..

Rolex (no longer own): 16610 bought in 2008 for $3,500

Rolex (still own): BLNR bought for MSRP and no tax $8,950.

Non-Rolex: Raymond Weil Maestro $800. Was headed out of town to a meeting and needed a watch that wasn’t a Rolex to be more audience appropriate. Put a hirsch strap on it and think it looks pretty good.

In 2009 I started buying Invictas; all of those would be my cheapest as I've still got them. It would have been to clarify better the intent of the thread. If we consider Rolex alone than it's my 16570 black ExpII. IIRC I paid about $3500 for it a number of years ago (in 2014). It's currently at RSC for some R&R.

Black dial DSSD bought in Sept 2013, list was £8050 but managed to haggle down to £7400. Remember when you could do that on SS models..

1972 1675 GMT Bought in 2001 from Timezone SC for 1225.00

It was posted by a non WIS selling his dad's watch and was slightly underpriced even (asking 1200) by 2001 standards. He was so new at it he forgot to ask for postage so I added the 25 bucks when I responded to the ad.

He said that's why he sold it to me. :) This is the longest I've ever kept a watch as well.

Assuming this is just Rolex, and not my other cheapies :-)

16710

pre-owned with box and papers in 2010, $3,650

Bought it while I was on deployment at age 26 (Navy helicopter pilot). It was the watch that I always wanted and the one that always came to mind whenever I heard the word "Rolex".
