PAM 233 or 111

So this an oranges to apples comparison, but which would you choose? Either option would be preowned.

I have a few watches with GMT complications and a few with no date today. The main thing attracting me with the 233 is the Superdome and I love GMTs, but I love the simplicity of the 111. Oh yeah and the 111 is half the price too.

If you had the choice of either as your only PAM which would it be?

Both are excellent in my opinion and I have worn both extensively. The 233 takes the cake. The domed crystal, case shape, 8 day movement, gorgeous dial etc just win. It is the most beautiful Panerai (in my humble opinion) and cures the itch in its entirety. Best of luck!

For me, it would be 111. It checks all the marks for me: manual wind, 44mm Luminor case, display back, screw lugs.

While I really like the 233 case and crystal, the dial is just too busy for me.

The bonus for the 111 would be you will have additional funds for another watch :D

From someone that owned the 111 a couple of times(and flipped them) , I'd vote 233 all day.

233. If I were to own only one Panerai, it'll definitely be the 233.

Easy choice. Unless it's a 111G, I'd go 233 (dot preferably).

Another vote for the 233 here. I love most of the 1950 Luminor models but the 233 looks fantastic

I really like the base Panerai. My one and only is a sausage dial 111F.

IMO ETA never looked as good as in these pieces...

^ Very nice! You're right about the movement finishing.

Just to say, a "base" Panerai is exclusively a 2-hander.

Oopsie! Thnx, Cru. I mistakenly assumed it referred to complications beyond a second hand.

Much appreciated!

I have a 111G/F/E on my short wish list - a very nice PAM for so many reasons

Also consider the 510, which is essentially a 111 with an 8-day in-house movement.

Apart from the domed Crystal, is the rest of the case the same as a 312?

Would ideally have a 233 and early 111.

No, a little thinner due to its manual wind as compared to the rotor of the 312

I love the look of the 233. I had one for a couple of years. In the end, I flipped it due to perceived issues with the movement and I just didn't wear it enough. It's a pretty big watch for starters and once I started wearing Rolexes and Pateks, I just started preferring smaller pieces. Given the choice of a 233 or a 111, I'd choose the 233 all day long. Remember that the GMT function is really on the subdial. The arrow hand is really just a second time zone not a true 24 hour GMT hand.

Here's the one I used to have. I really liked it on the OEM black distressed strap.
