Longines Heritage 1935 review

Hi all

Just wanted to do a quick review of this timepiece. This heritage piece is based on the original 1935 model and it is pretty similar with some differences. The main difference is the addition of the date and a slightly larger case size. Although not a limited edition, each piece is individually numbered.

First of all here some pictures (apologies for the lack of quality here)

Let's look at the main areas:

DIAL: large Arabic numbers and cathedral hands all with lume. Placement of date in a central position adds to the symmetry and is convenient. Nice touch of having the original fonts. Legibility in day/night is excellent.

8/10

CASE: highly polished case shape with patterned bezel which catches the light well. Sized at 42mm solidly built, it fits my 6.5" wrist well. The case is quite thick but is still smaller than a base Panerai. Nice large crown which is signed and goes well with the bezel.

8/10

MOVEMENT: ETA 2895 with 42 power reserve automatic. Robust movement and expected at this price point.

7/10

STRAP/BUCKLE: lovely black alligator strap (available in different sizes) with contrasting white stitching goes with the dial well. Buckle is a bit flimsy for this solid watch.

7/10

COMFORT: superb, from day one it is a great fit as long as you have the correct strap size.

10/10

COST: £1,310 / $2,300, excellent value for money - will be tough to find a better finished/designed timepiece at this price point.

10/10

OVERALL: highly recommended for any watch collection, goes well formally and casually making it an all rounder.

FINAL SCORE: 8.3/10

Cheers
Anuj

Great review and pics Anuj. Thanks for the write up.

I really like the look of the case and that's what first drew my attention to this piece. The cushion shape with the strong angular lines makes its a winner. However, the 42mm seems a bit big for me.

Enjoy your new watch.

Pleasure

Have you tried it on? My wrist is not the biggest and it fits me well. As it is cushion shaped it may well work for you too.

Haven't had a chance to stop by the Longines store. Will give it a go when I get the chance.

Great write up.

I didn't know you can get it with different size of straps, over here we only get it with a XL strap that is wat too long.

Yes there is a standard size and XL. I also tried the XL and is way too long. So anyone who is looking to buy this watch, make sure you get the right size strap.

Mine is on the standard size strap.

Thank you for your review! I love the watch but can't live with ETA movement :( I was thinking about getting a wonderful Longines Heritage as well but when I found out about ETA all romance vanished. . 2700 GBP for a watch with ETA I can't justify to myself even if I'm still in love with that Longines Watch!! I think Longines have a unique Pure Elegance but I think they should start doing their own movement but being part of Swatch Group doesn't help I guess.. I'm probably crazy!:p

An in-house movement would easily double the price.

Double? ! I didn't think it could add so much as I was thinking about the new Tudor in house which is not doubling the price but for sure it doubles the romance and fascination of Tudor for me.. True that they have big mama Rolex to help them with movements but also Longines being part of Swatch Group could have good partners... Probably it's just me and I'm crazy but not having the movement engineered and produce in-house simply makes the watch less romantic. . Longines is producing some great looking watches I love them but.. They are without Soul.

ETA is owned by Swatch, so, it pretty much is "in-house".

anyway, here's an article worth checking out about how "in-house" can mean so many different things and nothing at the same time (besides higher entry and service costs): http://www.hodinkee.com/blog/letter-...ecome-obsolete.

Indeed - glad I'm not the only one who noticed!

Cool review. Awesome watch for the money. Longines is one of the next on my list. They have so many cool heritage pieces. Thanks for posting.
