Authenticity check on a MN Tudor 9401

Hi all,
I’ve come across what seems to be a blue 9401 MN.
As I know very little about those, I spent the last hour looking around and came to the conclusion it’s not genuine for those coming reasons, but as the pictures are not really good, I figured I’d check with more knowledgeable minds :D (and the seller looks to be a genuine old man having it for 30yrs without knowing much other than « I bought it from a diver friend » and the asking price is very low, almost too low for a scam ).

- typo seems generally off (the R on tudor), but the low res pictures might burn some details too
- obviously a 9401 but with a 9411 case back
- typo of the « 7 » from « 1975 » is not like the others I’ve seen

Considering the price, I’d be very happy if it was a genuine 9401 even if not MN though

Thanks!

You are funny...

You react on a 7 in the engraving, but not...

1) using a 2783 (actually a ETA with DATE complication), used very rarely on 9411 (which usually uses a 2784). The 9401 had a 2776.

2) using a non-existant bezel insert (in Rolex/Tudor history) with a pearl forged in the depths of hell (read: Vietnam)

3) Dial looks horrible. Just look at the printing quality.

I would say it's purchased from a Vietnamese dealer that makes these custom builds in USA. He has a website, but I see no point in putting it here.

I like the scratches on the case back to try and make it look old

I noticed the movement issue but saw some 2783 were indeed used...but failed to notice it was on 9411 (complete Tudor noob here)

The dial printing/typo looked wrong to me but as the pictures were the worst , I wanted to be 100% sure

Thanks for the confirmation and sorry for the trouble

I got carried away because I spent quite some time this weekend staring at a catalogue from an auction last week that had an hypnotizing 94010 (that did not sell) and fell on this one right after...

By the way, how does it look to you? The insert’s color is like no other I’ve ever seen before. It’s origin seems accounted for as they name the first owner, a former combat diver from the French marine

It was appraised for 15-18k€ but didn’t sell so it probably didn’t reach the reserve price (usually 10-20% below lower estimate)...From other examples on Chrono24, it didn’t seem that high though...

The dial looks OK, but I would need better pics to make a final judgment, same for hands. Usually it's easier to spot aftermarket by looking at them from and angle to see "3D" effects which are present on genuine and not fake.

The movement is correct.

Case looks good.

The bezel insert is really bad aftermarket. But that is the easiest to fix. Just calculate an extra 1700 EUR for a correct one.

I doubt if any part of this watch has been close to the Rolex factory

The Original watch, and the watch in the advertisement are both fakes, not even good ones. And that is not a 2783 movement in the wrong case, it is a different movement re-engraved
