Watch 1014 Complete set
Hi members.
Wondering if I can get some help again. Wife's best friend that was resently widowed has a Model 1014 from 1959. It is a total complete set down to the original tags and all. She wants to sell it to go on a cruise. I have only modern Rolex pieces so I have no clue on a complete set with all original Rolex. The watch winds and runs but no record of any service etc. Has a very unusual band that stretches. Internet searches have not turned up any complete sets sn 4xxxxx. Thoughts Rolex |

It's a 6634, the 1014 refers to the band. Not hugely valuable. Here's some on Chrono24 https://www.chrono24.com/search/inde...goal_suggest=1

Well that a help. Thanks. 6634. Complete set I will search for the correct model in a complete set.
No way to change title sorry for the confusion. The papers say ref. 1014 with serial. M |

Ok so the watch looks like $2000-$2200. Any idea how much the complete set adds to that price?

Add perhaps $200 but the condition of the watch & movement could easily dilute the value of the full set. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I would actually be interested in that for the right price.

I think the value is more, to the right collector. How often do you see a late '50s Rolex with ALL of those bits and pieces? Not often. It definitely adds more than just $200. It's a super complete set, including the original price tag. Very cool! The only drawback is that the original guarantee paper is not filled out. All of that paperwork looks pristine, and that gold rivet stretch bracelet still looks very tight. Nice.
Assuming it's in running condition, I wouldn't sell for less than $4K. But then again, I'd probably keep it because of how complete it is. |

Those blank antique papers may be worth more than the watch. :)

Now I am not sure what to tell our friend. Probably just tell her to put on eBay for auction starting at $2500? What I am hearing is the pieces may be worth more than the package. I am sure she is not going to want to break the watch package up.

Yes, if she can do ebay, set a reserve and let the market decide. Cool carpet BTW. :)

TY for the reply. Indeed she has decided to sell. Still not real sure how much to ask so probably the eBay is the way to go. Thanks to members for all the help. If I decide to list here the way I read the rules of the sales forum I would have to buy from her and then list here. Definitely do not want to be banned on this forum, i love it so much !!

I ended buying this vintage. Now I have a question. I plan on selling this watch. Should I have it serviced before selling? Also one link in the expandable band is weak. Should I have that fixed?
Thank you for any thoughts... M |

I assume this sticker is original, but I don’t recall seeing the “golden egg” terminology before (insert your own goose-themed humor here).
I know *nothing* about these, so my apologies if this is all common knowledge. Is “golden egg” a reference to the bracelet type, or some anglo-mangled translation of “ovettone,” or ... what? Was this descriptor used in the catalogues of the time? . . |

Golden egg refers to a thick gold plating over a stainless steel watch. I bought one of these a few years back without all the paperwork/box/tags and in worse condition. I ended up flipping it for a bit more than I paid for it down the line.

Yeah, this is from the era in which Rolex actually did gold plating. The end links for that bracelet will most likely have a big letter P stamped in them to denote Plating.
Even though this is a complete and full set, the gold plating is a negative against it when it comes to collector value. A proper gold plating to restore the watch is actually quite pricey relative to the value of the watch, so they are looked down upon. Same goes for the later Rolex gold shell models of the 1970s. I agree with the above statement that the box and blank papers should be sold separately for maximum profit and the papers with the serial number should go with the watch.
