5975G vs 5170G

Been looking for a PP Chronograph for a bit and I like the 40mm size vs the 5070G for example. I hadn't really come across a 5975 before, and was wondering if the 'anniversary' model has any extra value to ownership compared to the 5170G?

Which do people prefer?

Anyone know production numbers on 5975G and 5170G?

I actually noticed the new 5212 takes some cues from the 5975G and between those two, I think I prefer the 5975G.

5170p, it’s usually the right answer involving the 5170 line

A legit conundrum as it will likely buy some nice brownie points with your AD but the OP said he doesnt like the larger case size of the 5070, which may axe the 5172G as well.

Very nice indeed, it actually attracted me to the PP Chronograph line to begin with. Ultimately, the larger size probably wouldn't work for me. Secondly, I own way too many blue dials (5712/Datejust/AP) so looking for some variation and something more on the dress side, which the 5172 reads a bit more sporty to me. Finally, there is a nice value proposition with 5170's trading range relative to the 5172g at retail.

The 5172 is only a 40 mm case but wears nice,, just nice to be different, IMO

Heads up I'm done with brownie points, it either that or the 5320 for my next piece

I like both pieces, but the difference is huge - do you want to time things of more than 60 seconds, or a display back? If either of these is needed then the 5975 is out - even normal timing under 60 seconds is pretty impossible. The 5170 also has a superior movement.

I prefer a manual winding chrono and display back, so I’d go 5170. Had a 5170g, now have a 5170p. It’s an amazing watch

I'm a huge fan of my new 5170...I highly recommend...from a technical standpoint the movement has some really great innovations that are fun to observe from the case back. Many on the forum favor the 5170P, I personally don't love the diamonds, but the blue starburst dial is pretty amazing to see in person. I favored the slightly oversized Breguet numerals on the black dial that are possible as the pulsations markings are removed as shown on the white dial version.

On the 5975, the dial is pretty interesting with it's multi scale and I'm sure for some a plus given the limited edition offering... but I wanted the chrono sub dials for the full complication and function.

good luck in your journey to select your watch..my overall advice is to ignore the temptation to think about resell values as you will always be chasing the hot watch, instead buy what you love and use the grey market pricing and availability as a guide for initial purchase price guidance only.

400 pieces of 5975G were produced.
