Next AP? hmm....Dilemma
Hi guys,
It's the time for a new watch!!! I already own a PAM392 and a RO 15400 in black... For my next watch I was initially thinking a PP Nautilus 5712, but I think I'll move on to Patek when the 'time is right' (I am still quite young and all that, so I want to wear chunky, younger looking watches:) ) So the two models I am thinking are.... (I know this probably came up a lot) ROO Safari vs Panda! (The good old pals who always fight for their popularity ) I've quite a quite small wrist, but I was ok with a 44 mm PAM (Though I own a 42mil now) and 41mm RO fits me perfectly. Both are absolutely stunning pieces and I am slightly tilting toward the Safari at the moment, because I think it's more versatile (and it looks fabulous on a rubber strap)... also the creamy, subtly dial looks very classic. On the flip side, Panda looks a bit more energetic with red hands, sub dial etc. It feels like Bentley vs Ferrari :s (if you know what I mean) Here are some of the points that I need to consider: -Versatility (use of different straps (I won't be fitting bracelets)) also goes well with various range of clothings incl. suits -Getting less 'bored' of the piece -'Value holding' - i.e. the resale value in the second hand market (If I am right, the average value seems to be a little bit higher for the Panda) Also some people have told me that it may not worthwhile getting a Panda or a Safari if I already have a 15400... Coz essentially, Safari and Panda use the movement that is quite frankly not much different from the ones that go in to 15400 and 15300 (just an 'augmented' version) also, overall, they look remotely similar, which makes perfect sense b/c they're from the same family :) I've tried both on, absolutely loved both... and really need opinions as to what you gentlemen think! Anyway, considering all the points above, what would you suggestion be? (P.S. If you own Safari or Panda or even both! shots would be deeply appreciated) Ta! |

Between the two, I would go for the Panda. The Safari just seems very plain to me. Its like the base model ROO in the lineup. As for the similarity to the 15400, I actually think both the Safari and Panda are vastly different. The will wear differently on the wrist and command more wrist presence. As for holding value I think they are relatively the same.
Few pics to push you along...

Panda for sure. I think most of us have thought between the 2 pieces before. I also love the Safari, but once I tried the Panda on a few times, it was the winner.

Panda's dial on ROO is really stunning, so much detail on it that I don't think you ever get tired of looking down on it.

Based on the 3 main things you've highlighted as key, I would go with the Panda for you as it is more versatile and can take a black hornback, black and red stitch, brown, and rubber strap and ofc bracelet which you may add later.
It is also a more interesting dial than the Safari, the safari dial should be more creamy and yellow to distinguish from the white subdials as they often just fade into each other, so Panda will keep your interest longer. And resale is better as it is more popular as this thread will show. |

I own the Safari and I love it...
But you first mentioned "versatility" and I feel the Panda provides a little more versatility. I also have the SS bracelet and as many times as I have tried...I can't get excited about my Safari on anything but the brown strap it comes on. While as you can tell the Panda looks great on a number of different strap options and I think it rocks on the bracelet. |

As much as I love the Panda and Safari... I'd still go for the PP.

How big of a deal is it to change the bracelet? I just tried on the 42 and the 44 and they were really close for me, but the bracelet/strap options in the pics here might be pushing me towards the 42.

Sorry, i didn't see any pics, but there are a lot of selection for 44 straps as well may not steel bracelet but lots of leather. Visit apbands.com they have all kind of straps for 42 and 44.

Ah, those are aftermarket. I think AP only makes rubber for the 44?
