Advice on future purchases
Hi,
I wanted to seek advice regarding a potential future purchase. I have a limited budget so I have to make a choice out of 3 options. All the 3 options below will have a delivery sometime in 2020 if I put the deposit down in few weeks. My current top tier collection consists of Patek 5711 white dial, GO PanoMaticLunar Blue dial on bracelet and AP 15202 (boutique delivery by latest of May 2019). I have to choose out of one of the following 3 Patek 5712 blue dial on bracelet - I really like the dial and feel it will go along well with my 5711. However, I am finding it hard to justify a $10K price increase from the 5711 with only a power reserve and moonphase that will be difficult to set each time if I wear the watch occasionally. Plus, now that I have the 5711, I would appreciate a heavier nautilus such as 5726. 5726 is not under consideration because I feel that the day and month is difficult to read at a single glance. Patek 5164 - Much better aesthetics than the 5167. Also, the watch is chunkier and will complement my 5711. However, it is again difficult for me to justify the $15K price increase from the 5167 for a GMT function. On a side note, I don't travel that much. F.P. Journe CB + Patek 5167 - I can get two watches with this option. Really like the CB and can't find any fault with it. It is a great watch to both dress up and down. I like the 5167 too but find the dial a little plain compared to the 5164. It will also be light like my 5711, I don't know how I feel about that. However, 5167 on rubber will be a nice complement to my 5711. Thank you |

While I love the 5712 - here I’d go with the 5164 — to me it is the best everyday Patek — and will compliment your 5711 nicely!

I would choose 5712 out of personal preference amongst the 3 choices. Although I agree with you on the pricing and the onerous setting of the MP (some people don't set the MP at all), I feel that this dial is a masterpiece. The asymmetrical indicators and the petit second hand, with a touch of red, seem to work very well on a blue background. Kudos to the person who designed this dial
The 5164, 5167 and CB are all nice watches, there are no bad choices here regardless how it turns out for you eventually. |

Since you already have a nautilus I wouldn’t recommend the 5712 (plus on a personal note I’m not a fan of this model, much prefer the 5711). So out of your options I’d say the best one would be the 5167 or 5164. But I do agree that the close to double the price of the 67 for a second time zone is a little much especially if you don’t really need it often…so I’d be leaning more for the 5167, which I think is an incredible watch.

Can’t beat the 5712. Since your 5711 is a white dial I think you easily have room for the 5712. I get he price difference can be hard to get past though. For me, I’m drawn to the dial of the 5712 way more than the price difference so it was a no brainer.

Sell the 5711 White. Get the CB+5712+5167. That combo should cover all bases

I would go with Option 3 (C.B. and 5167)
While I prefer the aesthetics of the 5164 over the 5167 I do really like both. I love the C.B. also and think I would much rather add that to my collection while still having a beautiful 5167 at the same time, over just having the 5164.

Tough choices, based on my experience owning cb, 5164 and 5712, it seems the 3rd option is delivering most value and variety. But honestly the 5712 is too beautiful to be ignored although I love the others very much but it is on a different level in my opinion. The cb is fantastic watch but being a manual wind and on strap, I don’t think it can serve as a daily watch and I wear mine occasionally so I vote for the 5712
Option 2 is fantastic but given the other choices, I would be choosing 1 or 3 easily. Good news is, you can can’t go wrong with any choice |

5164. It compliments your collection a little better than the 5712... 5711,5712,15202, and the GO are pretty similar watches IMO. The FPJ also runs into the same issue as the 5712 with variety.

At the new price for the 5712a why not get a R you already have a nautilus on a bracelet. You would get a PM watch and you can use the all weather strap that is similar to the aquanaut. I have a 5711 blue, 5167, and just got a 5712R and i think it’s great. At the new price point it’s only a 3k difference doesn’t have the same wait as the SS and you might be able to gat a discount that might make it cheaper than the SS. If you ask me I’ll take gold any day over SS at the same or lower price.

Whatever you choose, keep the AP, but I prefer quality over quantity.
If you can swing one really great PP and one really great FPJ, it beats spreading it out over 3-4 pieces. |

I would rather have one amazing piece than four average pieces, just as I would rather have one Ferrari than four BMW 3 series...
