I just bought a Barnes and Noble Nook and love it! I find that I'm reading much more than I used to because this thing is so much fun to use. I like that I can make the type as large as I want and unlike the iPad, it doesn't wash out in direct sunlight. I realize that the iPad has great web surfing capability, but I have a laptop for that.

I have the new Kindle, I absolutely love it, for reading it is far better than the iPad, for everything else the iPad is much better.

I recently picked up the new kindle as well. I wasn't sure if I was going to be okay using it rather than a real book but those worries quickly went away as soon as I loaded it up. The screen is amazing and reading on it is effortless. I wish there was a way to get free digital copies of the books I already own.

I say Kindle. Because Amazon has a client for everything; Windows, Mac, iPad/iTouch/iPhone, Blackberry... so your content can be more portable in case you decide to change devices. Plus Kindle books are usually cheaper than Apple. :)

It's great to be able to read a book on my iPad, then it automatically syncs where I am reading to my iTouch, and vice versa.

I am thinking of getting a WiFi Kindle as well, because if I lose it it's not so many dollars.

I just bought the new kindle for my wife. She's been using it plenty and really likes to be able to buy books anywhere. The small size is handy because it fits in her purse.

Do you have to pay a monthly service fee with a Kindle or Nook? Just wondering beause I'm considering getting my father one for Christmas.

I'm leaning towards the Nook for a few reasons. The free library is almost twice the size as a Kindle, you can share books with the Nook, and the battery is replaceable.

One other thing that's important to him is the fact that he would be able to go into any B&N if he were travelling and had a problem with one. I'm not sure if the Kindle has to be sent back to amazon or if they have places set up for repair centers if something goes wrong with one

Has anyone seen the Nookcolor?

That's another thing I like about the Nook. He can read it on the beach and still see the text.
