Opinions on How Often to Wear Vintage Watches
I was wondering what you think about how often to wear vintage Rolexes. I ask because I don't want to take off my new (to me) 1960 DateJust. I just love it to pieces. I realize that my much older vintage watches are more fragile, and will treat them accordingly, but don't know about the more modern ones. I'm still not planning on showering with it or swimming, using it in construction, or otherwise being too rough with it. Thanks!

I wear mine quite often and at least 4-5 days a week in rotation with other vintage and rest of collection. They were meant to be worn so enjoy them. If I didn't wear them all the time I wouldn't bother owning them. Cheers,

I don't have nearly as many as Ken does, but of the three that I have they all get worn at least twice a week every week.

I rotate my vintage 1680 Sub with my new Explorer - this means having to unscrew the crown on the Sub to reset it fairly frequently - was a bit worried about messing up the threads - any thoughts guys?

I have a 6424 Oyster and have the same concerns. Once a vintage part is worn out, it may be very difficult to replace.

I wouldn't worry too much as long as you are careful. Think about all the manual Oysters that have to have the crown unscrewed and vice versa every day to wind the watches. I have found the problems can occur when there is dirt on the threads otherwise it should be fine.

Do not worry unscrew and wind away! These watches were built for long term use and can withstand a whole lot more than unscrewing a crown!! Wear and enjoy and fear not!

I rotate my vintage pieces often and have absolutely no worries while wearing them. Yes, you have to keep them away from water, but other than that they can very much handle being worn often if not daily.

Depends on the need. But usually wearing vintage means a pretty relaxing day.

I really appreciate the advice. I love this watch to the point where I'm thinking about selling my YM :-)

--I was wearing my Tudor 7928 from 1996 quite often, but I've had to take it in for repair three times. So for this watch with the cal.390 movement, I think it's best to keep it in the bank vault...
--My sub 1680 white sub is a daily wear watch, and it's keeps great time... --My sub 16800's feel the hardiest of all my watches, as they are the newest (1983 and 1984).

Vintages always! I had a 1918 Waltham wristwatch that ran smoother and more accurately than watches 50 years newer. You'd think it had just come out of the factory!

If the watch is a water-resistant model and it has been serviced, its probably going to be good to go on a daily basis. However, for some of the older, smaller coctail watches that you have been evaluating, some do not look like that have a very tight case. Perhaps I'd leave those at home on rainy days. Cheers...
