Well, this site being this site, I just pulled the trigger on it - and of course on a set of US tropical straps (classic and waffle).

I'll be adding to this thread soon hopefully!

Just arrived and put on a Strapcode Tropical. It's finished beautifully, but it feels a bit top-heavy on the wrist.

Congrats

Top-heavy... really I'll have to do a search on you* to see what other watches you wear - perhaps then I'll understand why you feel that's the case with the SLA017... .

In any event, steer clear of any Seadwellers...

*EDIT - done; ok, well, if you wear mainly vintage Seiko / Grand Seikos... I now understand your POV

I think that's the first time in forum history that a search didn't end up in a flame war! I think you're right though - with small wrists and a preference for watches that wear light (even if they're not necessarily light per se), I'm not sure the SLA017 is my own personal style, irrespective of its undeniable quality, pedigree and beauty.

Interesting to see Seiko/Doxa/omega have very similar case structures on the divers. My understanding is that Doxa did make cases for omega back in the day

Does anyone have a comparison picture of a SLA033 and a Submariner? I am thinking about buying one but can't see it in person before hand. Also, is the case size similar to the SPB261 ? Thanks!

Make no mistake... the SLA033 is not like the seiko 'turtles'. those are seikos, this is MUCH MORE of a Grand Seiko and it was actually built and finished in the grand seiko factory, NOT in the seiko factory.

the finishing reflects the zaratsu finishing.

Thank you very much, those were helpful. They don't wear as large as I thought they would.

I'd venture to say it's due (in part) to the short lugs

Sla033 is a very wearable size. Should be no problem there. And they are a big step up in quality vs ‘normal’ turtles. Have had a fair few turtles including various LE’s and there is quite a difference.
