A lot of good suggestions. Pale Rider is great. I’ve never connected with Unforgiven, but the Shootist has a similar theme and is good (except Ron Howard who was too old for his role).
If you need something to binge, I’d suggest Deadwood. What is great is that HBO made a movie several years after the series ended, and they wrapped up some loose ends. Great movie. |

The Outlaw Josey Wales.
Dances with Wolves. Jeremiah Johnson. I dont know if these are strictly westerns but they are west of where I live. Gods and Generals. Gettysburg. Glory.

The Spaghetti's and High Noon.
One Eastwood that doesn't get a lot of attention but is one of my fav's is High Plains Drifter. It has a different pacing from many of the others, and is like an extended metaphor--and maybe even a ghost story. |

Indeed, Jeremiah Johnson and the Mountain Men should be included in me list. I always thought Windwalker was a very interesting move about Indians as well.

Lots of great movies listed. “Big Jake” should be required viewing for anyone that likes westerns and is a fan of movies in general.

Adding a couple of musicals to this as you already mentioned my favorites. "Cat Ballou"--worth it just to watch Lee Marvin (Academy Award for Best Actor) and listen to Nat King Cole. "How the West Was Won"--Clint Eastwood singing and a Best Picture nominee that year.

You know what you are!?!?!?! Just a dirty Son of a AAAHAAAAAHHHHAAAAA!!!
I had the director’s cut DVD, SO many interesting stores about that movie. There were some scenes cut that can not be found, one is when Tuco is chasing Blondie they come in to a small town. Tuco is yelling in the streets where is this man he is looking for and meanwhile Blondie is in bed with some hot woman hearing but ignoring him. Also, some of the mistakes. In the final scene, if you look at the closeup of Tuco standing on the grave marker, and looking at his face, if you look behind you can see cars driving by on a freeway in the distance. If you go on Youtube, you can find a video of filming locations then and now, very interesting. |

Have been to that filming location. It is not far off the highway in Andalusia, that region of Spain.

It is on my bucket list, I have heard Spain has turned it in to a tourist attraction, but you can still see the original stone circle and gave areas built by the Spanish Army. |

It has. I can't remember what it's called, but you can drive in and look around. Some of the sets are still standing--the wooden town buildings for the trilogy of Eastwood movies. Or at least they were when I was there 15 years or so ago.

That puts it in a lot better perspective than I got, and certainly didn't see all those locations. People think "spaghetti" westerns were shot in in Italy....no, Italian director/production and Spanish locations, for the most part.

https://youtu.be/NAdMN77zoHA Here is a question for Good Bad and Ugly fans. The final scene, Blondie shoots Angel Eyes, then looks over at Tuco. Tuco is trying to fire several shots at Angel Eyes but of course, his gun is empty. Blonde looks at him and Tuco kind of ducks, maybe preparing to be shot. But Blonde doesn’t shoot him. This is my theory: Blondie was see what Tuco was going to do. I.e. Tuco tried to shoot Angel Eyes, and not Blondie. If Tuco had aimed his empty gun at Blondie, I theorize Clint would have offed him too. Since Tuco only aimed his gun at Angel eyes, Clint decided to let him live. ? ? ? |

No Country for Old Men isn’t a traditional western but some would call it a modern western.
Deadwood (all 3 seasons and the Movie) would be my other suggestion |

Our second favorite household western is Once Upon A Time In the West. Wish we had a "favorite" western that was not three days long. Stay safe.

Sunday morning at 7:00 AM and I am getting a second hand dose of the final ballet shootout via my wife's iPad. Thanks Paul, I could have done without that till my second cup. Lesson learned.

"When you have to shoot, ... shoot. Don't talk!" Paul is such a trouble maker. I watched it last night again for now the gazillion and one time and still enjoyed it. Such a classic. Let your spouse know there is still GB&U life after Paul. I hardly even notice the out of focus movement of something in the background beside Tuco's right ear.

Mostly love the spaghetti westerns. For a few dollars more, and the good the bad and the ugly were great. It’s kind of silly, but I like bonanza as well if there’s nothing on tv.

As far as TV goes:
The Wild Wild West - even though it was far from traditional western fair The Big Valley The Rifleman Bonanza Paladin I know there were many others but those were the ones I watched.
