There was an auction last summer where a Mil-sub was put up on ebay. The seller was unaware as to what it was, and it went for a nice price.

I wish the seller luck with his big crown, it looks amazing.

Its funny he posted all the questions that have been asked by buyers on ebay...

There are some that say " will you take 6,000.00 by paypal ' buy it now ' ? "

Scumbags......

I hope it is for real--if so it is one heck of a story! A lot of posts in general discussion on this. I have to say I am skeptical but I personally avoid unknown sellers on Ebay. Again--in the end hope it works out for both the seller and buyer!!

The sellers "antiques roadshow" moment is spot on, good for him.

It's not quite the same but a good friend bought a box of watches from a pawn broker for $5.00 apiece because he saw a tuning fork Omega and an Accutron in the box and a Rolex that he had assumed was a fake proved to be authentic, 1947 vintage.

Funny how it went from $31k to $61K by same bidder in under 14 seconds.

After doing some research--I do believe the old man is legit. This could be an amazing story. He truly had no idea what he had and a bunch of sharks tried to devour him! Good for those that helped him and good for him!! Amazing!

he says it's a 5510...

but if he had absolutely no idea that it was valuable, how could he end his description by saying "So here's your chance to pick up a rare iconic timepiece"???

something doesn't measure up here...

cheers,
Peter

If Steve Mulholland is bidding on it (he appears in one of the questions to the seller), I would assume that the watch is legit!

I hope it is 100% legit--a Big Crown is a rare find and again I look forward to seeing the final outcome! And Yes Steve would have done his homework and I am sure would be real careful if he wins it!

A few small inconsistencies.... Says it's the ONLY watch he has ever owned, then mentions that he wore a Timex ,,,,

Sorry to be skeptical....

Then again.... Maybe I'm wrong and it is the real deal!

I did notice in his feedback that the seller had previously sold a Citizens watch, and an Omega Marine Chronometer for over $3k, so he clearly has a little highish-end watch experience...
