Congrats sir. You have good taste. I think it compliments the other watches perfectly.

If you are going to wear that bad mug why would it be on anything other than a rivet bracelet. Why not stick that in the safe and buy a later, more common/cheaper rivet bracelet. Just my opinion. The C&I bracelets in perfect shape won’t be bad at all.

Also, if you can own it wear it. You only live once. Congrats.

My Grail 6542 GMT Red has Arrived

Being in time sensitive/critical logistics for a living makes me curious how something like this gets delivered? Tell me it wasn’t via brown box like UPS or Fedex. Maybe DHL? They have a service where the pilot will hand carry high value items or sensitive documents on with him, then back off again when they land.

Not sure I would wander the streets with a $240k timepiece on my wrist. What’s the insurance like on this puppy?

I think if you can buy a $240k watch you can afford the insurance, and you can probably afford to lose it if you got mugged. I can only assume how I would live/act if I was that well off, I just financed my first home. It was less than the watch and it was the largest purchase I have made.

Unless he is hanging out where the gangster watch nerds are then he is probably OK. If I was given/gifted/inherited that watch I may act differently. Two different realities.

Thanks for the concern. I will be using a later model solid link oyster bracelet and fat spring bars to ensure that the watch will not fall off accidentally from my wrist.

My dealer flew to Hong Kong to personally pick up the watch from Sotheby's.

My watches are not safe queens. I like to use them all and what I use depends on where I am going.

That is service. That’s how I would see this going down, much safer traveling with someone. I wonder if he has an aluminum Brief case he handcuffs to his wrist.

I don’t know how durable the Riveted bracelets are, or folded link later bracelet. The only Riveted bracelet I have owned I just sold and I can see why you would want to securely strap it to your wrist with a newer style. Makes total sense.

Why did you not buy this one from Sotheby’s?

I'm no expert, but, IS that a bakelite bezel?
According Rolex, the 1955/6? bezels were made from "Plexiglass".

Can't imagine what one in this condition would fetch.

What would you have in mind? It could be the original hand set, if not original pretty close?

I’m goin say a rookie yup on Bakelite . even looks like damn near near NOS. Full set ? 300k minimum
no red font ? Another head scratching change by ROLEX
I’m crying.
Wonder what the movement looks like

This image is a bit funny as the case is clearly polished and the bezel which holds the bakelite notched. Meaning it is replaced. The image is also clearly very photoshoped to remove patina etc.
