$700 service for a quartz?

I took my Chrono sextant (quartz movement) to my local watch shot for a full service and they told me the watch was very complicated and it would cost $700 for the full service. My Rolex with automatic movement service from the same shop was $500. Does that seem high to anyone else?

Sometimes changing the battery requires the entire movement to be removed. Depends on the watch.

depends what need to be done to the watch for a full service. When I had a Montbrillant Olympus service through Breitling, it was close to $1,000. Was losing some time but nothing serious wrong with it.

Thanks for your responses. I am taking it in is because the stopwatch hand no longer goes back to 12 o'clock when it is resets. The watch is a bit beat up too so having it cleaned and polished.

I just sent my Navitimer Olympus to Breitling USA for a complete service. They quoted me $720 including shipping and this watch has a stopwatch function and an annual calendar function, plus a moonphase function. They quoted me 6-8 weeks for the service time. Fortunately, I've got about 10 other watches to choose from while I'm waiting for that one to come home.

700 for a Quartz sounds outrageous ,, I would think something along the lines of 150$ change up all the gaskets and work .. 250$ max

Seems pricey to me as well, took my mothers PP 24 in for a new battery and service and they charged the same...now I remember my Breitling was pretty pricey to do an overhaul on but it was a chrono with GMT...I'd seek a secondary opinion as well.

I've heard some high end brands just replace the quartz movement entirely. I want to say Cartier does that on their quartz movements when they break.

I think that is crazy to charge that for a quartz movement. What exactly are they taking apart?

You could buy a whole watch for not much more, especially after getting the 20% VAT deducted – https://www.chrono24.co.uk/breitling...-id3632656.htm

I’ll leave you to use the rest of the search results to see what else you can find.

What you guys dont realize there are quite a lot of mechanical parts in any analog quartz watch.Take say the Rolex OQ the drive train is exactly the same as used in the cal 3035 mechanical watches. And the quartz movement was more expensive than the mechanical movement to replace back then. Its not a digital movement like say on the LCD range of quartz watches. On analog quartz the mainspring is the battery the escapement quartz the rest all mechanical but agree like all so called high end watches costly to service.

best to figure that you'd likely need to service them as well unless specified.

Wow, thanks, I never knew that ! That goes a long way to explaining the service costs then.
