Listen, you have to do what you want. But I have been in the game a long time, and what I have come to value is what I call a meaning based collection-all others I get the urge to flip and I also value brand and watch diversity. So for example, I have owned many Rolex over the years and my sub stays as it was gifted to me my my now dead mother back in 1998. Hamilton khaki, my wife bought it for me under my nose on a trip to NYC in 2010, and my seiko H558, the watch that started the passion for watches. They stay and have history, personal relevance and meaning, as well as a story behind them. When my collection was like 8+ it was like I was curating a museum, and each only got like 5 weeks per year. You can’t build memories and meaning with a watch with a new one on the wrist every few weeks. That’s just a collection of stuff.

The only change to your collection I would make would be to trade the 126610LN for a 126610LV.

I am sorry for your loss. Your response was quite profound and really well said. Thank you.

How many in your collection today ?

Sell one of the Subs and then add either a Daytona or Day Date (whichever best fits your lifestyle) and then call it a day

Thank you. I mean it’s not so much advice but just sharing my evolution over time. So it’s my Rolex 16610, hamilton Khaki, seiko H558 in regular rotation. I have a seiko turtle on its way out as it’s not getting much. I find a deeper connection to the watches this way. To some degree, it’s interesting that the watch stories we like the most are from the folks that have lived lives day in and day out with one watch. For me, watches have meaning but when it was large, it was like just a large collection of trinkets with value yes, but no real meaning or stories. Stories are built by living life with your watch, friends and family see you wearing it and you become associated with it.

My sub was on my wrist on my wedding, job interviews, promotions, many graduations and yes some funerals. There are some stories there. Same with the hamilton khaki. Some folks have a story about how they acquired a particular watch and in the box it sits most of the year. Sorry, that’s not story in my eyes and not what Rolex was intended for.

I love reading the forum, watch magazines and the thing, but realized that the hedonic treadmill always churns and makes us strive for something new and we get that dopamine kick with a new purchase, and then it’s on to something new. It’s in our nature, and it’s never satisfied. But for me personally, those purchases are empty and it’s onto the next acquisition. That’s not really about watches then is it….

I think a 3 watch rotation is reasonable. With focus on the DD for the first 6 months of course.

Definitely better than a ton of SS models IMO. Love your gmt, i think the DD would crush.

Great collection!!! Sell the sub only if you want to. Don’t worry about redundancy unless it actually bothers you.

Only one logical solution.
1. Keep them all
2. Add the LV.
3. Add a Daytona.
4. Add a DD40
5. Add a Milgauss (because why not)
6. Re-evaluate collection and think about consolidating.
7. Keep all the above
8. Add another GMT
9. ...

I'd move out the sub date and replace it with either:
A Hulk
A Bluesy
A Pepsi

Add a little more color to the line up

Redundancy isn’t a bad thing; what about having a themed collection?

I think the CHNR and Polar are different enough to both exist in the collection. If you need to move one, I would keep the 124060 and off the date sub

I agree with this to the extent that date sub out and day date in. Maybe even polar exp out and go for a white dial day date ? Is such a dial too casual on piece like that ?

Awesome collection - yeah 126610LN out for me, no issue with the GMT's though. Maybe getting in one of the new OP's, the yellow/green are my two favourites.

Going in a different direction, if you were happy to go non-Rolex the new Speedy is fantastic and would fill the chrono gap (assuming Daytona isn't possible of course)

Subs more redundant than GMT/Exp II IMO. Your two GMT-function watches offer different dials and bezels, which equals a different look and experience. The Subs are basically the same except for date. Sell one, and acquire a chrono.

No date should go. The polar explore stays because of the white dial. Keep the rest because they each serve a unique purpose, and are awesome!!

Agree. I’d get a speedy or IWC chrono assuming a Daytona is not showing up at retail for you.

I’ve thought about the OPs but I felt it would create the same issue with redundancy but this time with the explorer 1.

I’ve always loved a speedy. Secretly hoping for a snoopy but I think I have better chances winning the lottery.
