Braclet screwdriver question
Hi all
I recently bought a 1.6mm screwdriver to adjust the braclet on my Sub 16610. When I place the screwdriver in the head of the screw there is a slight bit of play in it, basically it doesn't fit as snugly as I expected it would and I'm concerned if I attempt to take the screw out it could damage the screw slot/ head. Is it normal for there to be a slight bit of play in it or should it fit perfectly tight in the slot? Here's a link to the screwdriver in question, I've read on TRF the screwdriver has to be hollow or slotted which there is no mention of it in the screwdrivers description but I've read other people on other forums using the same screwdriver for their Rolex's which is the reason I bought it. http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B006JKFMX...051_TE_3p_dp_1 If this is the wrong screwdriver could someone recommend where I could buy the correct one in the UK? Thanks in advance for any help on this. Cheers Jay |

It needs to be flat-ground, which is blunt on the end, to be correct. That one appears pointy.

I would not use that one. The flat head end is tapered. You want a hollow-ground:

Hollow ground screwdrivers will probably fit the slot better. They will also transmit force perpendicularly to the slot.
Tapered screwdrivers will bear on the top edge of the slot only and will have a tendency to twist out. |

It's a Panerai OEM screwdriver, do a search and you will find.

I actually looked into this and they're discontinued. You'll find them for around $100 second hand if you look around.
Alternatively, I just ordered this, which look a lot like the MOD 1.6mm screwdriver referenced by Jocke: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-60MM-CUT-O...item27e97ecee9 The seller claims it's made in Switzerland. I will let you guys know how it does when it gets to me. |

I called the st james service centre and they still had a couple of the rolex seadweller screwdrivers left. You have to go in and ask them and they will sell you it for £100. I decided not to pay that much for a screwdriver as the one i bought from watchobsession.co.uk was a hollow ground 1.6mm and fitted just as well. On a different note but still tool related the bergeon bracelet removal tool that everyone recommends does not fit the deepsea and will scratch the lugholes if you try to force it in. I tend to use the non fork end as this fits better and is less likely to scratch the watch.

Here is the difference between the Horotec Curvature (left) and the standard Bergeon. Both 1.6 mm. The Horotec works flawlessly.

So I received the hollow screw driver. While the fit is not perfect (the blade is 1.6mm wide but is not as thick as the slot, the tip touches the end of the screw slot), it works very well and much better than a traditional screw driver. It's not the sea dweller tool but it does the job! I'm happy for now. |

Yes, as has been said, the hollow ground tip is the correct tool for these screws.
The SD '2100' screwdriver is handy to have but I have found that this screwdriver and others with similar tips are too small to grasp securely when faced with a stubborn screw that needs some force. I found this one on line and the large handle makes things much easier and less likely to slip due to the much firmer grip I have on it. It also has a revolving removable endpiece for storing extra tips.:thumbsup Just took these pix a few minutes ago. Wearing My GMT TTc For Saturday in Oz.
