Icon20 Manual winding issue with new sub

First post. Hey TRF, I bought a semi-new Sub 116610LN a couple months ago. I did my research and all is kosher: security marks, serials, paperwork, matching warranty card, tags, box, original receipt, overall quality, everything.
I’ve been really happy with the watch and it keeps time perfectly, however, there’s this odd thing I’ve seen when manually winding it where it does not seem to start the watch unless if, after a few turns (20 or so), I pull the crown to the third position, then push it back, only then does the second hand actually starts moving. This is the only thing that has made me nervous so far on this purchase.
Is this usual? Should I take it to an AD?

Thanks for your help

No perfectly normal 20 winds is the minimum, try 40 and see what happens

Normal, my wife's DJ is a 3135 movement also, does the same thing. I would wind it up 30 times and after moving around it would start.

Normal. Give it 40-50 winds. You can't over-wind a Rolex.

I think OP is asking if it’s normal for watch to start only after pulling it to 3rd position and back post-twenty turns.

Sounds about normal... I never tired winding it then pull crown out to and back in.
Usually I have to wind 20 30 turns then I give it a light shake or so then it starts then I go set the time.

I pick up my Explorer II, set the time, give it a couple of vigorous shakes and then put it on.
that's usually sufficient.

Thank you all for the feedback! I’ll have to wait a couple days for it to run out of power again and reattempt, but based on your feedback I feel better now on how this may ne a no -issue. Appreciated!

Watch does start with kinetic movement, but somehow I found odd that, absent the movement, and with only a few turns of the crown in manual winding, watch wouldn’t start. I’d then ask myself whether crown was in a weird position, pull it to third position (still with only 20 turns or so), push it back, and all of a sudden watch would in fact start. Never seen that in other watches I own.

Quite often they need the slightest of shakes for the movement to begin.
The power stored in the mainspring is ready, but the hairspring just needs a very slight movement to start the train rolling.
You’re all good.

30 turns min on a 3135 movement to power up appropriately

You can’t overwind a modern Rolex

Sounds normal. You could always just shake it a bit after 20 winds to help her get going. Of course we mean 20 winds, as it 20 full 360-degree turns, not just 20 times your finger winds the crown, which of course is generally less than 20 full 360-degree turns of the crown.

After my Submariner has been not worn for a while, I have to give the watch a little shake after winding before it starts going.

Give it a full wind (40 turns or so) and see if it starts without pulling out the crown. My Sub starts at just after 20 turns, so if I stopped at 20, it might not run without some external influence.

Well this happens with my bell&ross. It was all good until i dropped it face down on a marble floor, it stopped, and me winding it doesnt start the watch either, i then pull the crown and push it back, then it finally moved again. Eversince after that, everytime i wind it, it needed a shake for the second hand to start sweeping again, which wasnt the case previously

I woke up this morning, put my watch (new sub) on, and I noticed it wasn't running. Last time I wound it was about 2 weeks ago. I wore it yesterday, but admittedly, I wasn't that active. I basically sat on the couch watching basketball all day.

I've noticed that my daily activity is a big factor. If I go into the office on a regular basis, remain active, then I could go a while without having to wind it. If I work from home a couple days straight, and then sit on the couch all weekend, the power doesn't last as long.

The movement not starting until well wound is common.

I only ever give my watches a few turns of the crown, set them and screw in the crown This always starts mine and they wind up on the wrist.

Yes, falling face down on a marble floor can do that to a watch.
