Then you can buy another watch!

~~~reminds me of the time I just bought a used 73' Chrysler Newport Custom (about 78'-79'), I was fairly young at the time and wanted to do right by the car as it had an oil leak I determined coming from the transmission, so I took it to one of those coast to coast transmission places so they could fix the leak for me
I'm sitting in the customer waiting room, a guy comes over and says to follow him out to the garage. the car was up on a hoist and all of the transmission oil was in one of those drain pans that was elevated, but low enough for me to see a big brown spot in the middle of the red pool of tranny oil
So they tell me the clutch plates are bad and the transmission needs to be rebuilt. thinking something was up w/their diagnosis, since the tranny was shifting beautifully, I told them I couldn't afford to rebuild it right now so they refilled the transmission with the same oil and I was on my way
Knowing a mechanic that might be able to advise where to take my new to me Chrysler w/o getting shafted, he recommends a place he knows that is honest, I drop off the car, a few days later they tell me all it needed was a new gasket for some type of pump that was leaking (IIRC), and they changed the oil. I don't remember the exact charge but it was under $100 and seemed reasonable
