I have been thinking about this piece for a while and have a decision to make. I have tried it on a few times and love it. I have been wearing a BLNR every day for a year and thought it would be with me forever. Now not so sure. Do I:

A) Keep the BLNR and the cash
B) Trade the BLNR + cash for a Smurf
C) Trade the BLNR + cash for a silver dial 15400

Thoughts?

Very high on my list of upcoming purchases. The Smurf is a beauty

Have seen many on TRF, but none in the wild outside of my AD

I've only noticed a few of these out in the wild before...like, very few. They've always been on display at my local ADs recently.

Wonder how many have bought the regular SS sub with after market blue dial and bezel? There's always a ton of them on ebay for sale. For instance: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw...2&_stpos=90005

They even polish the bracelet to make it look like the WG version. (not saying any of the above are those). Not sure I could tell the difference in the wild. Would there be any noticeable differences?

It is another interesting blue. Sometimes it looks dark navy almost black. Others it’s ocean blue. It may not be sunburst but it still has a gorgeous high in the sun. And I live the weight of the Smurf. I was talking to someone today who honestly thought it was SS until they held it and realized the weight.

I bought mine for me. Whether someone else thinks it’s real or not doesn’t matter. Every time I look down at it, I smile. If someone want to go to all the trouble to make a fake wanna be, that’s their choice. But nothing feels like the real thing!!

Just curious — does anyone own the white gold and the yellow gold version? I have the yellow gold but want a white gold one too. Am I crazy?

100% agree with you there. It's the real deal or no deal for me too.

This one actually never did anything for me. I love how it looks in pictures like those above but I've tried it on and seen it many times in person and the flat blue dial just doesn't speak to me. It's too Smurfy! However, I think it will be highly sought after in the future if it's discontinued like the Hulk. I wonder why they didn't release the LV in WG instead of this. A WG green dial submariner would seem like something more special since green is the official Rolex color. The yellow gold/blue and black combos are timeless and will always be available in some form or another.

YG & WG is ok with me. They both have different attitudes. Must wouldn’t even notice it’s the same reference. They will notice the color of the metal first.

As long as there are no hallmarks put on the case or bracelet I don't see why the problem with a custom SS Smurf. I'm a firm believer of doing whatever you want with stuff you own. I only have a problem when people try to pass off less valuable things as the real deal. This is more problematic with the current gen SS Daytonas.

My take (YMMV): Now that I have the Smurf my stainless Rolex's get no wrist time. Maybe that will change, but I simply love the warm hue of the white gold, and its heft. Silver dial 15400 is nice, but it doesn't feel/look as special to me as a Smurf (I handled black and white faced versions in a store). So, as a Smurf owner I am biased - but I say B.

I'd imagine that the folks that buy these are some of the same folks that might stick an M3 badge on a standard 3 series, or an AMG badge on a non-AMG. Sadly, anyone with an actual M3 or AMG WILL know, and I suspect the well-intended buyer is killing resale on an other solid watch (assuming it was authentic to begin with - and you'd have to wonder!)
