Great look, but too small. I would say the new GMT IIC to be the standard.

I see why you could pick this watch as your "one watch" but as a dive watch enthusiast it is hard for me to call this be perfect watch.

Personally I am more drawn to the Air King models with the explorer style dial.

Rolex doesn't make the "perfect" Rolex...yet.

Take the no date sub posted by gelshocker; remove the rotating bezel and replace it with the plain smooth bezel of the Explorer or Air King; retain the Triplock crown and "ears"; remove all the present text from the Sub dial except for the word "ROLEX" and a model number (14XXX); and now you have the perfect Rolex.

You mean you want a 40mm Explorer with a trip lock crown?

Would be owner

To me this is just about perfect: 39mm works well even with my 7 3/4" wrist. It's been pared back to a minimum but can work with a business suit. It's robust, it's...it's...

I really don't know why I don't have one yet.

I think the new version "tweaked" at Basel this year is pretty darn close.

Which model? The current, soon to be former, model is most definitely not perfect - the hands are too short.

Which “new movement” are you referring to? The Explorer 1 (214270) already has the latest movement with both Parachrom Blue spring and Paraflex shock system. I don’t believe a newer movement exists.

I didn't realize this was so old! I voted darn close thinking of the 39mm version. Can't say I felt the same about the 36mm version.

If it was a little bigger and had the date on it, it would be my favorite watch.
